Some quick early whistles killed the game’s vibes to start but both teams adjusted a bit and turned it into a track meet. Pikesville missed several easy shots and Catoctin made them pay every time and took a 14-11 lead after one.
Pikesville continued to struggle with shooting in the second quarter and Catoctin knocked down some threes and took a 25-15 lead into halftime.
The Panthers came out with more defensive intensity in the 3rd quarter and quickly turned the game around. They took a brief lead before Catoctin rallied to maintain a four point lead after three quarters. Pikesville ramped up their defensive pressure in the fourth using a zone to thwart a lot of Catoctin’s offense. The game featured 12 lead changes overall but Pikesville was able to walk Catoctin down and secure their second ever 1A championship, 51-42 behind some strong defense and late heroics by freshman Amori Jarrett.
Amori Jarrett, Pikesville, 2025, Guard
Amori turned in an impressive freshman season, averaging 19 points a game. She only shot 6-21 in this one but still put up 20 points including several clutch hoops late. In addition to her scoring she added 3 blocks, including two late blocks on three point attempts, and 6 steals. Her defensive efforts were key to Pikesville’s rally.
Jayda Mayles, Pikesville, 2023, Wing
Like almost everyone else in this game Jayda shot a low percentage from the field, but she had a huge impact on the game. She finished with 8 points, 13 rebounds, including 9 offensive boards. She also added 4 steals and 1 block against just one turnover. I don’t think they get this win without her.
Tykeisha Hill, Pikesville, 2024, Center
Ty took up a lot of space in the paint and made life difficult for Catoctin. She finished with 7 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal and 1 assist. The 6’1 sophomore played very composed and had only one turnover. She made all 3 of her foul shots.
Aliyah Taylor, Pikesville, 2024, Wing
Aliyah is 5’9″ wing with excellent length and good athleticism. She contributed 5 points, 5 rebounds, a block and a steal in 14 minutes. She was stout on defense and was on the floor when Pikesville took control of the game.
Darielle Weems, Pikesville, 2024, Forward
Darielle only logged 5 game time minutes but she came in when the game was still in the balance and Pikesville was rallying. There was no room for errors for anyone who stepped on the court and she did her part. She grabbed two rebounds and sank two free throws in her lone stint for the game. She knew the assignment and completed it.
Taylor Smith, Catoctin, 2025, Guard
Taylor is a quick guard with a good handle and vision. She used her speed to get into the paint consistently and caused a lot of problems for Pikesville. She shot 8-13 from the field on her way to 19 points. She also chipped in 5 steals and 5 rebounds. She played a very poised game for a freshman.
Emma Wivell, Catoctin, 2022, Wing
Emma had a rough shooting night but the athletic wing was still about to put up a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She battled all night and held her own. She will play at Salisbury University next year.
