If you were in the Oklahoma City area on Monday May 29th, you were probably at the Hive. On Memorial Day, the Skinz League High School Edition was hosting and All-Star game. I was in Tulsa, Ok recovering from a long but exciting weekend in Kansas City at Prep Girls Hoops Dynasty Region Finals. I hopped on social media and saw that this game was going on. Usually for the boys but when I saw the girls would be represented for the first time, I told myself, Lex you better get over there! So with no hesitation, I gassed-up the whip and headed to Edmond, OK.
When I walked in the gym, the energy was up! The teams were on separate sides already competing in the 3-point contest. Both teams were loaded with talent! On the Orange team: [player_tooltip player_id="309982" first="Sania" last="Richardson"], [player_tooltip player_id="197942" first="Stailee" last="Heard"], Micah Gray, [player_tooltip player_id="238724" first="Zya" last="Vann"], [player_tooltip player_id="261718" first="Azjah" last="Reeves"], Nariyah Parks, [player_tooltip player_id="197944" first="Boston" last="Berry"], Kyiah Prestridge, Tailia Vann, and [player_tooltip player_id="197968" first="Jazmin" last="Adams"]. On the Purple team: Darianna Littlepage-Buggs, Jordan Harrison, [player_tooltip player_id="197962" first="Kenzli" last="Warden"], Rayland Garner, Skylar Dudley, [player_tooltip player_id="309979" first="McKenzie" last="Mathurin"], [player_tooltip player_id="309983" first="Janiyah" last="Williams"], Darcy Roberts, and [player_tooltip player_id="249260" first="Tyla" last="Heard"]. Micah Gray won the 3-point contest. Once the game started, it went back and forth. It was a highly competitive game. The talent was evenly distributed on both teams and players were able to showcase their skills. The Purple team won the game and Darianna Littlepage-Buggs was the MVP! Below are the players that stood out. Unfortunately this is the first time I have seen these players play but as time goes on I will learn more about their game.
[player_tooltip player_id="309982" first="Sania" last="Richardson"] | 5-5 / PG | Ada HS | BTR 17U | 2025 | @Sania23R
Sania is a shifty guard that takes what she wants on the court when she wants it. She is a high-energy at the point guard position that is aggressive especially with a defender on her. She can finish with contact and has range behind the 3-point line.
[player_tooltip player_id="197942" first="Stailee" last="Heard"] | 6-0 / CG | Sapulpa HS | Lady Jets 3SSB 17U | 2023 | @StaileeH
Stailee is a super aggressive player that has a bag that stands out. She can score at all levels, can take you off the dribble and get to the basket and also create space for her shot. She is a shot-maker, especially when her team needs a bucket. She has the ultimate confidence on the court and plays with high-energy.
Micah Gray | 5-9 / CG | Classen SAS | Texas Southern University | 2022 | @MicahGray2022
Micah is a shifty guard with good size. She does a great job creating space for her shot and taking her defender downhill. She has a strap behind the 3-point line, and it is smooth like butta. She won the 3-point contest for a reason; she is like that. Micah was a big part of the 4A State Champs Classen SAS High School, and looks to continue her basketball career at Texas Southern University in the Fall of 2022.
[player_tooltip player_id="238724" first="Zya" last="Vann"] | 5-9 / CG | South Moore HS | Lady Jets 3SSB 17U | 2024 | @ZyaLiv
Zya is a player that started off the game mild but came alive in the second half. She is an elite defender. She is great on ball and had numerous steals and really disrupted the flow of the other team due to her quick hands and quick feet. Zya has high-level footwork and she uses that to her advantage when finishing. She finds a way to score through her footwork.
[player_tooltip player_id="261718" first="Azjah" last="Reeves"] | 5-8 / CG | Harding Charter Prep HS | OK Unity 17U | 2023 | @reeves2023
Azjah is a shifty guard that has a package that you don’t see often, her presence on the court is different. Off the dribble she is unstoppable. She uses her hesitation dribble to catch defenders off balance and can get downhill, initiate contact and finish. I like her game and look to follow her this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="197968" first="Jazmin" last="Adams"] | 6-1 / PF | Choctaw HS | BTR 17U | 2023 | @JazzJ2023
Jazmin is a Physical player that uses her strength and size to her advantage. She is a rebounding machine that can push the ball in the transition and make good decisions on the perimeter on offense and a solid rim protector on defense. She stretches the floor and can shoot the 3-pointer well. Jazmin is a Work Horse that doesn’t quit, and is the first one down the floor for the easy bucket. Jazmin made the biggest impression on me all night. She got game!
