Now that there is some downtime before the high school season, I want to go through some kids I think will impact their team next season. The kids I'll highlight may not be the kids that immediately jump to the forefront of your mind. I want to use this to highlight kids who do the little things.

[player_tooltip player_id='209594' first='Katelyn' last='Odem'], Homestead

Following a regional final loss last year against DSHA, Homestead returns everyone. Although most of the talent Homestead has are 2025s, the 2024 is an integral part of the Highlanders. Every successful team has a kid who wins all of her 50-50 balls, is the first to dive on the floor and creates extra possessions. That is Odem's game to a tee. Her consistent energy level will be crucial to the Highlanders' season if they want to make a deeper run into the postseason.

[player_tooltip player_id='448299' first='Addison' last='Doyle'], Brookfield East

Getting rotational minutes as a freshman isn't easy. It's even harder when you have [player_tooltip player_id='156077' first='Annika' last='Pluemer'] and [player_tooltip player_id='266987' first='Shae' last='Kelley'] in front of you. However, when the clock struck zero in the Spartans' season at the Resch Center against Brookfield East, Doyle was on the floor and took a 3-pointer late to attempt to tie the game. Doyle is another kid who empties the tank every time she steps on the floor. Kelley and Pluemer are effortless defenders and make that end of the court look easy. Doyle is the one who brings the wild side of the game and can help make this Spartan team an out-of-this-world defensive unit.

[player_tooltip player_id='448245' first='Reagan' last='Krueger'], Kimberly

After taking a step back last season, the Papermakers' have a plethora of young talent, Krueger being the one who could make the most significant impact next season. The 2025 forward is as versatile as they come. The 6-footer can play inside-out and outside-in. Her ability to score from anywhere could help ease the pressure their lead ball handlers endured last season.

[player_tooltip player_id='338944' first='Georgia' last='Acompanado'], Pius XI

The Popes got two new faces via transfer; Acompanado and [player_tooltip player_id='209584' first='Amaya' last='Bridgewater']. Both players will likely play a role in Pius' attempt to finally get over the hump and get to the Resch Center, but today I want to highlight Acompando. Some may think the fit with [player_tooltip player_id='338941' first='Tess' last='Wiczek'] could be awkward because their both point guards, but that backcourt could be one of the best in the state. Wiczek is a point guard that looks to set the pace and get her teammates involved before creating for herself, and Acompando is the opposite of that, and they may bring the best out of each other. Over the summer, Acompanado showed flashes of the player she could be the issues were with turnovers and sometimes not being aggressive enough. With Wizcek setting up the offense and Acompando zeroing in on what she does best, the Popes' backcourt could be a perfect yin to each other's yang.

[player_tooltip player_id='421305' first='Jordyn' last='Peed'], Eau Claire Memorial

The last name on this list is the one that may be the one that seems most out of left field, but hear me out. I've already stated that every successful team needs a kid who'll do all the little things to succeed, and Peed already did those things, but she's gotten better all summer. Nobody in the Big Rivers Conference will enjoy playing against Peed because she plays hard all the time, and she never gets tired. Her skill has improved throughout the AAU season, and I expect she'll have some games where she'll turn losses into wins solely based on her being herself. Don't be surprised if Memorial makes a deeper run than you think in February.
