For most, they are sitting on the bench at least to begin the game learning by observation. The following freshmen, though, are already competing at high levels and contributing to their high school teams even into the post season conference tournaments. Here are some freshman that you should go ahead and learn about.
Rayana Minard
Rayana Minard
Rayana Minard did a nice drive to the paint for some points. She showed off her floater in the paint that seemed to be unstoppable after her crossover to lose her defender. She attacks the basket with her ball handling making it count in transition. She was tasked with guarding a top senior in the state, and she seemed to be well up to the challenge keeping her in arm’s reach at all times.
Shariah White
Shariah White
Shariah White battled through contact on the block scoring her points. She was persistent going after her points grabbing offensive rebounds and putting the shot back up. She does a nice job using power dribbles to get into position and score some points. She runs the floor well being ready in transition for some fast break points.
Ma-Kaela Gidney snuck inside for some rebounds on the offensive side of the ball continuing the possession for her team. She drives hard to the basket being ready to make an adjustment on the way up to score some points. She even showed off how she can block shots. She did a nice job anticipating passes on defense sliding into deflect them. She had a nice baseline drive showing off her floater to finish.

Cecily Swimmer
Cecily Swimmer doesn’t shy away from sliding into help defense even handling herself against a taller opponent. She may be a freshman, but she certainly doesn’t back down from guarding the opponent’s best ball handler making sure she doesn’t get to the basket easily. On offense, she handles the ball for her team running the offensive sets, and she can score herself around the perimeter.
Marlee Whitten
Marlee Whitten
Marlee Whitten is sure to get you a lot of things on the stat sheet. She gets inside to grab rebounds on both ends, especially scoring off crucial offensive boards. She can handle the ball herself pushing up steals she grabs for some fast break points, and she has some nice power dribbles to clear out space on the block to score. She uses every bit of her length on defense to knock the ball away from its anticipated receiver or strip the ball from her opponents. She can certainly block shots as well.
Lyla Bagwell is an asset on both ends of the court. She can hustle back on defense cutting off an opponent trying to make some points, and she keeps great position to make sure she has an opportunity for the defensive stop. She is constantly stripping the ball away from her opponents or jumping into passing lanes. On offense, she can score from deep making her points off the pass. She attacks the basket, too, showing off some nice adjustments at the rim even when she has to battle through contact.
Autumn Washington is incredibly versatile for the Lady Knights. She gets inside to grab rebounds, and she can be her own outlet busting up the court on fast breaks. She has the agility to make some nice moves with the ball, and she has strong adjustments attacking the rim to allow her to score some points. She’s a tough defender stripping the ball away from her opponents or clogging the paint with her length. She handles the ball well around the perimeter finding her open teammates cutting to the hoop, or she can post up inside to get some points for her team.
Highlights
Emma Montanari is quick with her decisions knowing when to make a closeout around the perimeter even blocking shots from her opponents. This quickness is evident when she hustles back on defense blocking shots in transition. She truly crashes the boards on both ends following shots to make sure she has a change for the rebound. She pushes the ball up the court finding open teammates on fast breaks. Her shot fakes are efficient as she blows by her opponents to get her points, and she can take it all the way or show off her floater.
