Rebounding is often a thankless part of a basketball game. Rebounding takes effort. A player has to be tough to want to battle inside to get rebounds.

Honestly, I love a good rebounder.

As a scout for Prep Dig and Prep Redzone, I am thankful to join Robert Kelly and the Prep Girls Hoops site for Kansas and excited to be covering club, college camps, scouting combines, and high school games.

So, for my first few scouting reports, I wanted to focus on leaders across the state of Kansas who racked up large rebounding numbers.

Here is a look at players from Class 1A DII who are coming off big junior seasons and look to continue to post large rebounding numbers as seniors in 2023 and 2024.

Nevaeh Pearson, 6'0”, PF, Flint Hills Christian

Pearson is all arms and legs. As a bonus, she can score from all over the floor. She averaged a double-double during her junior season. Pearson averaged 15.3 points and 13.4 rebounds a game.

Lucy Miralles, 6'1”, C, Stafford

Miralles almost averaged a double-double in her junior season. She averaged 10.6 rebounds a game and 9.6 points a game. She is physical and plays solid defense.

Karoline Schroeder, 5'7”, PF, Wheatland-Grinnell

Schroeder averaged a double-double during her junior season. She averaged 10 rebounds a game, and 11.6 points per game. At 5'7” and finishing with 201 total rebounds proves that she “wants” to get the ball. Schroeder is also a talented outside hitter on the volleyball court.

Mary Baird, 5'7”, PF, Northern Valley

Baird averaged 6.6 rebounds and 10.8 points per game during her junior season for Northern Valley.

Elly Jo Tancayo, 5'4”, PG, Ingalls

It's not every season you see a point guard among the league leaders in rebounds. Tancayo finished her junior season with 6.5 rebounds to unofficially put her in the top ten in Class IA DII. The Ingalls point guard also averaged 10.7 points per game.

Taylor Denio, 5'4”, PG, Stafford

So, imagine my surprise when I discovered there was a second 5'4” point guard who loved to bring down rebounds. During her junior season, Stafford's Denio averaged 6.5 rebounds per game and scored 10.4 points per game. She is a solid passer, can shoot the three, and is not afraid to get to the glass to board against taller players.

[player_tooltip player_id='453780' first='Anna' last='Thielen'], 5'4”, SG, Wilson

Thielen is a big-time guard who can play the point or play shooting guard. She averaged 6.2 rebounds per game and 15.5 points per game. She is a floor leader and also plays volleyball.
