What I ended up doing at home was watching more basketball with it being Live Period. Below I’m going to drop my thoughts on some players that have been doing their thing this weekend at their perspective tournaments, wherever they maybe taking place. Enjoy!
Brynlie Hadenfeldt is a top ranking player in the 2026 class out of the state of Iowa and she is showing off why that is to start her AAU campaign this spring. Hadenfeldt is an athletic forward with good size accompanied with a whole lot of skill. She is efficient in her movements and always knows where she wants to go or what she wants to do in that possession. Along with this she has an impressive guard skill-set with the ability to change direction in a blink of an eye. She possesses a plethora of skill moves to help her navigate offensively against bigger or quicker defenders. This weekend she has been doing WORK for her Lady Martin Bros team. She is scoring at an efficient and consistent pace, rebounding better then almost everyone else on the court, and is showing that she can also be a role player and do what is asked of her, by her coaches, at any given moment. Over the next few years I see Brynlie becoming a huge prospect with a lot of interest coming her way, no questions about it. Her gameplay this weekend just reaffirms that thought.

A player who showed a ton of heart and grit during the state tournament was Alyssa Bartlett Alyssa Bartlett 5’7″ | PG Southeast Polk | 2025 State IA of Southeast Polk high school. Bartlett is a go-getter. A player that puts her emotions on her sleeve and lets her competitive nature guide her to a lot of success on the floor. She is a quick moving point guard who gets up and down the floor in a hurry. She moves well without the ball in her hands and spreads the floor but in reality she is a play-maker. Put the ball in her hands and she will run the offense you want to perfection while picking and choosing her spots on when to attack herself. This spring she has started her AAU season in a full sprint, showing off what she can really do. She has had some great success with this at tournaments as of recent, being named a top performer here and there throughout her games. She will take this momentum from her spring/summer and hopefully ride it into the high school season. Something that is more then do-able for a guard with this much talent.
Throughout this spring I have been putting together AAU team previews on both the girls and guys side for Prep Hoops. Last week I covered the Girls Iowa Intensity 16/17U team and one of their players Breckyn Schilling Breckyn Schilling 5’11” | SF North Mahaska | 2025 State IA . I didn’t get a chance to elaborate on her game as much as I would of liked so here we go. Schilling is a lengthy and athletic forward. She has size with great speed and a high motor. Right now she has the ability to play the 1-5 for her team on both offense and defense. Over time that will change and she will be labeled as a combo guard or small forward, depending on where she ends up playing. At this point she has already talked to a few D1 coaches and has been invited out for camps/un-offical visits, some of those schools being Toledo, Western Colorado, Havard, Furman, and Columbia. I expect this interest from recruiters to grow this spring when they see Breckyn play live. She has every ability to be a successful producer at the college level, for a well known and high level program. Which one you may ask? Only time will tell.

Emily Larsen Emily Larsen 5’11” | SF Cedar Rapids Prairie | 2026 State IA is an underrated player on the court that happens to fill up the stat-sheet for whatever team she is lacing up for. Larsen, a small forward with active feet and an act for finishing through contact, had a solid freshman year for her CR-Prairie high school team on the varsity floor. She has followed that up by being a consistent contributor for her Lady Martin Bros team this spring thus far. She has been scoring, rebounding, and blocking shots like a maniac out there and everyone is loving it. She has really been showing her dominate nature as of late, which is great to see. Larsen and Hadenfeldt, who I mentioned first in this article, play on the same high school and AAU team. A lot of promising players would shrink around other talented players that are on the same team but that is not the case with Larsen. She does an excellent job of showing everyone that she is just as important to her teams as anyone else. As we look toward Larsen’s future with her mixture of size, strength, and skill, I’m sure her recruiting interest is going to be on the rise this AAU season, leading into her high school year.

“Hand up!”, “Shooter!”, “Close out quick with a hand up!”, “Get over the screen!”. These are all things that an opposing coach yells at their defense when Ava Fischer Ava Fischer 5’9″ | CG Humboldt | 2026 State IA catches the ball at the three point line with an open look at the hoop. Fischer is a quick footed guard who can really let it go from behind the three point arc. Shooting maybe her best ability but it is definitely not her only ability. Overall she is a well rounded prospect. The ideal point guard who can create off of the dribble for others and run their offense smoothly or go get you a bucket with the game on the line. Defensively she displays active hands leading to a lot of defections and steals while being able to finish through contact on the other end of the floor. Overall, Ava is a combo guard to know. She is a top guard in the 2026 class in Iowa and that isn’t going to change, anytime soon. Make sure to keep an eye out for her playing at a location near you.
