She was an undersold guard, who shined with the lights being the brightest they could be at the high school level. This AAU season she has been doing much of the same. She has been handling the ball, knocking down open looks, creating for herself and others at an impressive rate, and generally has been a big time leader for her All Iowa Attack Team. Other than being fantastic on offense, when it comes to the defensive side of things she has been a menace to her opponents by applying pressure in the open court, causing a good amount of turnovers. The Attack team she is on is loaded, so that she is standing out above most says something strong about her game. I’m excited to see her to continue to dominate the rest of this AAU season.
Grace Knutson Grace Knutson 5’10” | SG Cedar Falls | 2024 State IA is committed to Drake to start off her college basketball career. Knutson, an agile guard with good size, can move from the point guard position to the shooting guard position depending on her teams line up. When she has the ball in her hands she is good at leading her team down the floor in transition, usually ending with finding someone open for a clean look at the basket. If she moves to the off-guard spot she is nice with her catch and shoot while being able to put it on the floor to create in other ways, if her defender jumps at one of her pump-fakes. As a guard she has a really complete game and it’s going to bring her a good amount of success at the next level, you can already tell.
Sydney Huber Sydney Huber 6’0″ | SG Mount Vernon | 2025 State IA has grown more into a small forward size right in front of our eyes over the past few seasons but continues to dominates at the guard position. Either way, she is really starting to shine. Huber is a lengthy and skilled combo guard. She spreads the floor and moves well with-out the ball in her hands while having the ability to shoot a jumper if given space. Physically she has good length and speed, usually giving her an advantage against her opponents. This spring/summer I expect her to keep on shining while bringing in a lot of college interest in at the same time.
Grace Fincham Grace Fincham 5’10” | CG Iowa City West | 2026 State IA is poised to be the next big player for IC-West High School this winter. Fincham is an efficient and crafty scoring guard. She plays with poise, balance and a lot of heart while knowing her offensive game to a T. Last season for West she averaged 8.8 PPG on 50% shooting for the season, just giving everyone a glimpse of what she can do. She has carried that high school seasons momentum into this spring, showing off her game at a high level. She has done really well working away from the ball and creating space before she catches, giving her better looks at the hoop. Over the next few seasons she is going to be a rising player throughout the state of Iowa and that starts this summer.
August Palmer August Palmer 5’10” | PG Iowa City-City High | 2025 State IA s skill-set has always been above and beyond most her age as a guard. She has shifty movements side to side, keeps everything efficient, can pass and rebound with the best of them, and is a big fan of physical play. Not to mention that she has games where she can really score the ball at a high rate from behind the three point arc. This AAU season Palmer has been breaking ankles, taking names, and letting everyone know that she is a guard not to be trifled with. I expect this high school season for her to be as dominate as ever. She has every gift and ability to put something really special together at IC-City High.
