Friday and Saturday, June 16th & 17th, the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association hosted the first IBCA/IHSAA Girls Team Showcase at Mount Vernon High School (Fortville, IN) and Hamilton Southeastern High School (Fishers, IN). This month has added a new element, however, as the NCAA instituted a new “Scholastic Live Period”, allowing all NCAA coaches, including Division-I, to attend events on these dates. I was able to speak with an NCAA representative, and apparently less then 20 states around the country are taking advantage of these “Scholastic Live Period” opportunities. As for the Team Showcase, 72 Varsity teams from around the Hoosier state participated at least one of the two days, most both days, and nearly all of the top prospects were on hand to compete. With that many teams on 12 different courts, and at three different sites (also included was Mount Vernon Middle School), it was difficult to see every team, but below are some comments on a few teams and prospects I was able to see during my time at the event.
Bedford North Lawrence: The Lady Stars will be playing a lot of “small ball” this year, and 2024 star Chloe Spreen Chloe Spreen 5'10" | SG Bedford North Lawrence | 2024 State IN was often the tallest player on the floor at 5-9. Her ability to score the ball at all levels, coupled with backcourt classmate Madisyn Bailey Madisyn Bailey 5'9" | PG Bedford North Lawrence | 2024 State IN and her ability to control tempo and run offense from the point, should be enough for Bedford to approach 20 wins once again this coming Winter.
Bloomington North: The Lady Cougars suffered an abrupt coaching change just a week and a half ago, but they showed up and played extremely competitively. The Senior tandem of guard Ava Reitmeyer Ava Reitmeyer 5'10" | SG Bloomington North | 2024 State IN and Mia Robbennolt Mia Robbennolt 6'0" | PF Bloomington North | 2024 State IN give them a nice duo to focus on next year, however the remainder of the roster will likely be very young. Reitmeyer looks noticeably stronger and more confident offensively, and she was more aggressive towards the basket, while Robbennolt has always been a nice athlete, and she is able to score the ball from the 3-point line or around the paint.
Center Grove: The Lady Trojans were playing without a couple of key pieces, but they still got solid contributions from what should be a veteran team in 2023-2024. Versatile Senior guard Aubrie Booker Aubrie Booker 5'8" | CG Center Grove | 2024 State IN and Senior wing Audrey Annee Audrey Annee 5'9" | SF Center Grove | 2024 State IN headlined the 2024 class for them Friday evening. Booker does just about everything consistently, while Annee is a tough-nosed, physical shooter with range beyond the arc.
Evansville North: The Lady Huskies have seen a lot of production leave via graduations in both 2022 & 2023, but they have some nice, young talent looking to step into leadership roles this season. Junior forward Libby Blythe Libby Blythe 5'11" | SF Evansville North | 2025 State IN and Junior forward Evie Sale Evie Sale 5'10" | SF Evansville North | 2025 IN look to be a great starting point. Blythe is a strong kid who can bury perimeter shots consistently, while Sale is a long, bouncy, and active player who can act as a point forward or play around the basket. Freshman guard Brooke Silva Brooke Silva 5'9" | SG Evansville North | 2027 IN and Senior guard Aliah Epps look to carve out time in the North backcourt. Silva should be one of the better Freshmen in the “Pocket”. Also keep an eye on 6-1 Junior post Maddy Knies Maddy Knies 6'1" | C Evansville North | 2025 IN to step up inside.
Lawrence North: The Lady Wildcats are going to be very intriguing in 2023-2024. They have a combination of size, athleticism, and skill. Senior post Natalia Franklin Natalia Franklin 6'1" | C Lawrence North | 2024 State IN and Junior post Jamaya Thomas Jamaya Thomas 6'1" | C Lawrence North | 2025 State IN hold down the frontcourt. Franklin has an athletic frame, length, and continues to develop her skillset. She is a problem anywhere inside of about 15-feet. Thomas is powerful, physical, and she plays with a motor. She can control the boards and score it at the basket. I was impressed this weekend with 2024 guard Kamara Mills Kamara Mills 5'8" | SG Lawrence North | 2024 State IN . She has a strong frame, athleticism, quick feet, and she can really defend. She is a multilevel scorer as well, but her ability to defend stood out most. Another Senior guard, Emani Washington Emani Washington 5'7" | CG Lawrence North | 2024 IN , also did a nice job of using her length and quickness to create scores.
Linton-Stockton: I was only able to see the tail end of one of the Lady Miners’ games, but they should be near the top of Class 2A entering the 2023-2024 season. Senior guard Bradie Chambers Bradie Chambers 5'8" | SG Linton-Stockton | 2024 State IN is the leader of the group. She is tough-nosed, strong, skilled, and she can make plays for herself or others. Fellow Senior guard Sydney Jerrells takes care of the basketball, gets it where it needs to go, but she can also knock down shots when open and in rhythm. Junior twins Addisyn McKee and Alyvia McKee are two more perimeter players who can make things happen. Addy is more of a guard who can shoot or drive, while Liv is a wing/forward who can play a little around the perimeter or attack from the mid-post.
Parke Heritage: The Lady Wolves are a two-headed monster comprised of Junior point guard Emma Simpson Emma Simpson 5'7" | PG Parke Heritage | 2025 State IN and Junior forward Raegan Ramsey. Simpson is an athletic lefty who can flat out make plays off the bounce. She is a creator and a hidden talent in Western Indiana. Ramsey is a long, wiry-strong athlete who does her damage in the mid-post. She can shoot/score it from there or attack the basket, plus she’s an effective rebounder. Parke Heritage also has a nice group of youngsters set to make an impact sooner rather than later.
Pike: The Lady Red Devils graduated their top three scorers from this past season, and they were missing a couple of other key pieces for the 2023-2024 season, however they were competitive when I saw them. I was most impressed with 5-11 2026 forward Komari Booker. She is strong, athletic, and she flashed some skill in the mid-post and around the basket. She is sure to make our 2026 rankings update coming out soon. 6-1 Senior post Alexis Warren Alexis Warren 6'1" | C Pike | 2024 State IN is extremely powerful, physical, and assertive around the basket. The lefty is a little left-hand dominant, but she has athleticism in her frame, and she picked up her first Division-I offer last month. Senior wing Morgan Crowe Morgan Crowe 5'8" | SF Pike | 2024 IN and Sophomore guard D’Mari Gilbert also had nice moments in the game I was able to attend.
Scottsburg: Scottsburg is primed for a big season in 2023-2024. The Lady Warriors have talent at just about every position, plus they shoot it extremely well as a team from all five positions. Junior guard Ellie Richardson Ellie Richardson 5'8" | CG Scottsburg | 2025 State IN is talented, skillful, and aggressive. The lefty can play on or off the ball effectively. Senior guard Carrie Hiler Carrie Hiler 5'7" | SG Scottsburg | 2024 State IN has always been a favorite to watch, because she competes each possession, and she is another dangerous shooter with range. Junior point guard Lola Fouts Lola Fouts 5'5" | PG Scottsburg | 2025 IN is extremely long at her height, fluidly athletic, crafty, and she can also fill it up with range. But that’s not all, as Senior forward Taneisha Griffin and Junior front-liner Katrina Cooper Katrina Cooper 6'0" | PF Scottsburg | 2025 IN give them athletic options up front. Griffin is an energy kid who can defend and rebound, while Cooper is good in the mid-post or around the basket.
Silver Creek: The Lady Dragons are another strong, but young team in the South, and they are led by 6-2 Sophomore forward Brooklynn Renn Brooklynn Renn 6'3" | PF Silver Creek | 2026 State IN . She is extremely long, fluidly athletic, and just smooth. She has greatly improved her perimeter skill, and she has made herself a dangerous shooter/scorer from all three levels. Sophomore guard Emma Schoen Emma Schoen 5'7" | PG Silver Creek | 2026 State IN is the floor general, and she can fill it up outside or create offense for others. Junior guard Katy Rooney Katy Rooney 5'3" | CG Silver Creek | 2025 IN is another tough-nosed guard who can play on or off the ball. She brings great energy to the lineup, as does Junior wing Lydia Wright Lydia Wright 5'7" | SG Silver Creek | 2025 IN . Wright has really improved her skill over the last 12-18 months, plus I like how she defends & rebounds with effort.
South Knox: The Lady Spartans were 18-7 this past season, but they unfortunately fell in the first round of the Sectional. I would anticipate that has them motivated, and they looked great Friday morning. They will rely on three specific players to lead them this year, including their top returning scorers in Junior guard Ella Bobe Ella Bobe 5'9" | CG South Knox | 2025 State IN and Junior forward Bren Hill Bren Hill 5'11" | SF South Knox | 2025 State IN . Bobe has a lot to like about her game. She has an athletically strong frame, broad shoulders, and length, she is a solid athlete in most directions, and she is skilled. She plays at a pretty even pace, doesn’t force the action, but she is skillful on or off the ball at all three levels. Hill is an extremely long and wiry forward who can play inside-out. She can knock down a jumper or handle it and attack, plus she has a nose for the ball. Younger sister Kendal Hill Kendal Hill 5'7" | CG South Knox | 2027 State IN is a 2027 point guard prospect who will see immediate Varsity action and likely be their third double-digit scorer this coming year. Look for South Knox to be a Top-10 team in Class 2A in 2023-2024.
Zionsville: What will the Lady Eagles do minus the services of Miss Basketball Laila Hull (not to mention two other graduates in the 6-foot range)? Well, based on this weekend, I have a feeling we’re going to see a heavy dose of Senior guards Emma Haan Emma Haan 5'8" | SG Zionsville | 2024 State IN and Allison Caldwell Allison Caldwell 5'11" | SG Zionsville | 2024 State IN . Haan is a strong, physical, assertive bulldog who is always on attack. She brings a ton of energy and raises the level of her teammates’ play. Caldwell is a pure shooter with good height, length, and fluidity. She torched the nets in the game I saw, and she showed good vision and the ability to run the offense. Senior point guard Faith Leedy Faith Leedy 5'4" | PG Zionsville | 2024 State IN will also see significant minutes on the ball, and she is another tough-nosed, feisty ballplayer. Up front, it looks like 6-1 Junior Caroline Sampson and 6-2 Senior Brooke Karesh Brooke Karesh 6'3" | C Zionsville | 2024 IN will get the first look. Sampson is strong, active, fairly athletic, and skilled. Karesh is a strong, physical, low-block scorer and defender. I also liked what I saw from Freshman guard McKenzie Chapman. She has an already strong frame, solid athleticism, and the ability to play on or off the ball.
