On the first morning of the three-day Pittsburg State Team Camp, the University's second team camp in two weeks, I scouted three early games.

Eighty-nine high school teams from five different states are competing in games that consist of two 13-minute halves and are playing in multiple locations across the towns of Pittsburg and Frontenac.

Here is a scouting report on players who stood out in those three early Day One contests.

[player_tooltip player_id='862408' first='Rylee' last='Brooks'], 5'6”, PG, Girard, ‘24

The most impressive player in the first game of the day was Girard's Brooks. She plays point guard for the Trojans, but could also play shooting guard. She scored nine points in Girard's two-point victory over Cherryvale. Brooks is very quick off the dribble and likes to drive the ball. She plays shut-down defense and finished with five steals in the game.

Hayden Buckley, 5'9”, SF, Girard, ‘24

Buckley's shooting game was off in this game, but she appears to be a possible three-level scorer. She is a solid passer and can get to the glass. She finished with two points and two rebounds in the early game.

Maddie Coester, 5'9” G/F, Girard,'26

Coester is heading into her sophomore season so she has a lot of basketball ahead of her. She has an athletic frame and hustles while she is on the court. She added two points and two rebounds to Girard's stat sheet.

[player_tooltip player_id='231259' first='Brooke' last='Walker'], 5'8”, G, Andover, ‘24

Walker is an all-around guard who can take care of the ball and has a nice jump shot. Walker averaged 17.3 points per game and 4.4 rebounds during her junior season. Walker is currently ranked No. 3 in the Kansas Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2024 Rankings. She scored seven points in Andover's victory over Owasso (OK). She was 2-for-2 from the free throw line and 1-for-2 in 3-point field goal attempts.

[player_tooltip player_id='396405' first='Alana' last='Shetlar'], 6'1", PF, Andover, ‘24

Shetlar is currently the No. 8 ranked player in the Class of 2024. She has the potential to be a real beast on both ends of the floor. She is tall and moves quickly for a big. She enjoys driving the ball and is not afraid to shoot from deep. Shetlar scored three points and two rebounds in the win over Owasso.

[player_tooltip player_id='349458' first='Aliyah' last='Green'], 6'0”, F, Andover ‘25

A name to place in your memory bank is [player_tooltip player_id='349458' first='Aliyah' last='Green']. She scored 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field in Andover's first win of the tournament. She transferred to Andover from Hutchinson. She can dominate a game inside and beat people to the rim in transition. The Andover forward finished with four rebounds against Owasso.

Emma Johnson, 5'8”, G, Circle, ‘25

The Circle Thunderbirds have an athletic guard in Johnson. She is fast and would at times plays too fast. She is not afraid to push the ball but can turn the ball over when she starts moving too quickly. She finished her sophomore season scoring 5.9 points per game and averaging 4.9 rebounds per contest. She is athletic and will hit the boards. In my mind, she would fit well on an in-state JUCO roster that needs a solid shutdown defender.
