They didn’t win too many games, but, then again, that isn’t really the point of these things. Most of the time, I couldn’t tell you who is winning any of the games to begin with. What I can tell you is what teams have some prospects on them and Team 2 was definitely one of them. Here is a closer look at the players from Team 2.
The main note that I had beside Ella’s name and even circled several times as she kept making play after play is that she makes her money on the defensive end. She has a nose for the ball and is just a really tough, really tenacious defender who seems like her whole mission out there on the floor is to win the ball back for her squad. She plays a hard-nosed brand of basketball that is really great to see. She can also shoot it and showed a nice dribble drive. At 5’9″, Ella already has good height and is very strongly built. She is definitely a prospect and one to keep an eye on.
Darien was selected by all of us scouts in attendance as a player who needed to be honored by being featured in the GameChangers article. This was due in large part to her absolutely endless motor that seemed to keep going and going and going. As everybody tired throughout the day, with good reason, Darien seemed to get stronger. She played the same incredible on-ball defense from the first game to the last. There were no plays off for the opposing ballhandler when Darien was out there on the floor. She is a hard-nosed player who plays a particularly tough brand of basketball. She has a tough, yet controlled, drive to the basket with a strong finish. She is a leader and her teammates feed off her effort.
One of the higher IQ players that I saw this weekend, it is clear to see that Jayda is a student of the game. Do not let your guard down around her if you have the ball, or what’s yours will become hers. She is a great athlete who reminds me a little of a younger version of another tremendous Jenks athlete, Jill Twiehaus Jill Twiehaus 5’10” | SG Jenks | 2024 State OK . Her sneaky athleticism is going to take her pretty far and matched up with her high basketball IQ and willingness to do the little things, the sky is truly the limit for this young prospect.
Believe it or not, Hadli has a very similar shooting stroke to a player that I wrote about yesterday on Team 1, Haidyn Campbell Haidyn Campbell 5’9″ Atoka | 2027 OK . Both play at Atoka and… now that I think about it… look a lot alike. Just like her twin sister, Hadli can fill it up from long-range and she does it in a way that is just demoralizing to the defense. She shoots so quickly and so accurately that the defense almost never knows what hit them. It is clear that she is a gym rat who gets a bunch of shots up. It is also clear that she is confident in her shot and that her shot — and that of her sister’s — is going to take her to college to play basketball four years from now.
Belle stood out, even amongst a lot of tall and long players, for the fact that she was really long for her height. She used her long arms really well to get off a nice mid-range shot that was basically unblockable. She showed a nice high release and was always quick to do the little things like box out as soon as the shot went up. All morning Belle stood out for her work ethic and she applied constant pressure to anyone unlucky enough to draw her as an assignment on the offensive end. There was a pretty good chance she was shutting them down. You might think you got past her initially, but watch out when those long arms start flying up behind you to swat your shot!
