Halie Bishop (2027, 4’6″, Lawton)
Bishop definitely made a statement with her play at the event. She established herself as a talented 2 way player. Bishop made play after play on the defensive end. She showed excellent defensive quickness and an eye for the ball that helped her come up with a handful of steals on the day. Offensively, she was comfortable handling the ball and initiating the offense.
Jaynie English (2027, 5’7″, DeWitt)
English will certainly be a player to watch over the next 4 years. There was a lot to like about her game, but her jumper probably stood out the most, at least early in the day. English is confident and effective in her ability to shoot with 3 point range, especially when catching the ball in rhythm. She showed that she can attack the rim as well with a solid baseline drive.
Samantha Fuhs Samantha Fuhs 5'11" | SF Dearborn Divine Child | 2027 State MI (2027, 5’9″, Dearborn Divine Child)
Fuhs is a really high upside young player. She has the all around strength and versatility needed to be a great basketball player in high school. Fuhs can guard multiple positions and can defend on the perimeter as well as in the paint. She had more than a couple blocks on the day. Fuhs is a multilevel scorer and a solid passer.
Sydney Hutson (2027, 5’10”, East Lansing)
Hutson is a very skilled and intriguing prospect. She really has tremendous upside as a player and prospect. Hutson was probably one of the most athletic players in the gym. She attacked off the wing and was very active around the rim and the mid range area. Hutson has the ability to get around defenders with the ball and uses her length well on defense.
Maya Merritt Maya Merritt 5'3" | PG Grand Rapids Christian | 2027 MI (2027, 5’3″, Grand Rapids Christian)
Merritt has the look of a nice playmaker in high school. She was quick and athletic with the ball at the showcase. Merritt was able to create space between herself and her defender with her quick handles. She was able to build up speed very quickly, allowing her to beat defenders to the rim or to a spot on the floor. Merritt showed range on her jumper as well.
Golden Nicholson (2027, 5’7″ DeWitt)
DeWitt’s run of talented basketball players isn’t ending anytime soon. Her offensive quickness and handles could create a lot of problems for her opponents over the next few years. Nicholson was at her best when putting the ball on the floor and attacking the basket. She was an excellent finisher at the rim showing creativity and toughness.
Bailey Powell Bailey Powell 5'6" | PG Olivet | 2027 State MI (2027, 5,9″, Olivet)
Sometimes these types of showcases can be offensive shows, so it was nice to see a player really focused and effective on the defensive end. Powell was really solid all day with her perimeter defense. It wasn’t flashy because it didn’t need to be. Powell just kept a good base, stayed locked on the ball and didn’t provide openings or looks for her opponent.
Aaleigha Roberson Aaleigha Roberson 5'10" | C Portland | 2027 MI (2027, 5’10”, Portland)
There was a ton to like about Roberson’s game yesterday. She was flat out powerful with the ball and defenses either didn’t, or weren’t effective in stepping in front and stopping ball when she got down hill. I liked Roberson’s versatility in the way that she could attack facing the rim and with her back to the basket. Roberson played well through contact and it felt like she got to the free throw line a ton.
Emma Slotman (2027, 5,7″, Hamilton)
Slotman caught people’s eyes at the PGH Freshman Showcase. She did an excellent job creating opportunities and taking advantage of them. Slotman was really good in transition where she pushed pace and created offense. She was under control on her finishes and very effective in taking angles and fending off defenders with her off arm.
