Continue ReadingLast week we posted the inaugural watch list for the Class of 2027. This list begins with 60 total prospects, and 7 of them are frontline prospects. There will be a number of changes to this list over the coming months and years, as we learn about new prospects, and as current listed prospects improve their “recruitability”. While we don’t have anyone truly ranked at this time, I did want to specifically mention five young ladies who stand out to me at this point in time.

– Alaina is an incredibly versatile frontline prospect who has really nice upside. She has solid size and strength, really nice length, and she’s a fluid and smooth athlete for her size. She moves around the court and runs the floor more like a forward than a post, plus she can play facing the basket. At the same time, she is big enough/strong enough to dominate on the low block.

– Payton isn’t too dissimilar from Alaina (above), but she has grown so fast that she’s still figuring it all out. She looks more comfortable around the basket right now, she has tremendous length, and she keeps the ball high and finishes high. She has shown flashes of stretching her game to the mid-post and beyond. As she finishes growing and gains more strength, she could become a problem.

– Adah is what I like to call a face-up ‘5’. She has great size and strength for her age, and based on genetics, she’s likely to grow a little more. She is comfortable putting the ball on the floor, she has nice touch in the mid-range, plus she’ll even knock down the occasional 3-pointer. Inside, she can overpower smaller defenders, but she also has good hands and footwork on the block.

– I have only seen Paige briefly, so I’m less familiar with her than these others, but she is a player too. She has a strong frame, she’s a solid all-around athlete, and she can play with some versatility. She still looks more comfortable on the block, but she can overpower most defenders and finish through contact. As she continues stretching her game, she will be a handful later in her career.

, 2027, 6-3 C, Guerin Catholic H.S.
– Gianna is another prospect with nice genetics on her side, as both of her parents were Big Ten athletes. She has nice size, developing strength, and she plays with a good motor at her size. She runs the floor hard North/South, she has solid hands on the block, and her footwork continues to improve. If she continues to grow, her stock could really take off, because she puts in the work.
