Continue ReadingThe time has finally come. The 2027 Player Rankings Update for the state of Nebraska is here and just in time, right before the high school season tips off in a few short months. In this first edition of the 2027 class I have only added 25 players to this list to begin. When our next update occurs again at the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024, there will be 25 more players added. So on and so forth at every update going forward.
How to read & understand the rankings:
- In this first 2027 Update, all players will be labeled as WL or Watchlist’ed. During the winter update is when the players will be assigned an actual # as to where they are compare to others in their perspective class.
- Each player will have a position rank associated with their name in this first update, please ignore that. That is the systems way of remembering what players, were mentioned, in what order in the past.
- The position that the player is labeled at currently is where they are seen as a college prospect, at this moment in time. That is subject to change as time goes on and players evolve.
Some small things to please remember from an outside perspective:
- Just because a players name is not added on this list, does not mean they aren’t a good player. It simply means I haven’t seen them compete YET or consider them as a CURRENT player who will see significant varsity minutes as a freshman this winter at their high school.
- With younger classes there can be some major movements as to where a player is from update to update. It’s crucial to understand that when a player moves down in the rankings, it’s usually not because they played bad or haven’t been doing well. It’s because more players are being added to the rankings and those players skill-set maybe evolving to a higher level as they get older.
- A Players Ranking is an opinion. Nothing more, nothing less. My advice is that you can use it to motivate you or you should move on. There is no reason to feel hurt or slighted as it is never personal. It’s just a different point of view. Remember, opinions change.
In the article below I will be featuring five players, in no particular order, from this 2027 class that I think have the POTENTIAL to be ranked in the Top 5, at the next update this winter. There is a lot of time between here and then but every individual below has proven over the past few months that I can expect production from them on the high school floor this winter.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
T’Niyah Wilson-Smith T’Niyah Wilson-Smith 5’11” | SG Bellevue East | 2027 NE is a talent well before her years on the court but she needs to show me a little more this high school season before I can confidently say that she is a Top 5 player in this 2027 class. I had the privilege of watching Wilson-Smith compete a handful of times this AAU season. In each contest that I saw, she displayed moments of being really skilled with the ball in her hands, while being a constant producer on the floor. My biggest question is going to be her defense. I’m not saying she can’t play it, but I need to see more of it. There were times this AAU season where Wilson-Smith was caught slacking on the defensive side of the ball and so that’s my concern going forward. If she can lock in on defense and commit, the way she does to offense, she is in the conversation for being a Top 5 player out of this 2027 class looking toward the future.
Another player named Addison to know out of this 2027 class is Addison Medeck Addison Medeck 6’2″ | PF Papillion LV South | 2027 NE . Medeck is an enforcer. A 6’2 Forward whose physicality and high motor defines her on the court. I’m going to be honest. Medeck is very good for her age. She understands her size, how to put touch on the basketball, where to put the ball off the glass to score against alike size opponents, and how to pass out when a double team comes. Not to mention, that she is able to turn over either shoulder and score going either way out of the post or mid-post currently. When you account for Medeck’s combination of age, size, and skill, the future is very bright. If she can expand her game into including a nice 15FT jump shot over the next few seasons, we are talking about a MM-HM college basketball player. As for right now, this is my vote for the #1 player out of the 2027 class in Nebraska, prior to the high school season kicking off.
Mollie Probasco Mollie Probasco 5’10” | SF Elkhorn South | 2027 NE is a lengthy combo guard. She has some height at 5’10 but also displays a uniformed jump shot. Her mixture of length and smooth play out of the court shows a ton of promise to any potential recruiters that maybe watching her compete. Probasco is going to see the varsity floor as a freshman and that going to tell us all we need to know. If she can do what she did this AAU season and keep it simple, while being a steady shooter and consist rebounder, then she is going to continue to stay as a “higher” ranked prospect in this class moving forward. Like all players though, she will need to expand her game over time, becoming a three level scorer and an antagonist on defense. All things that are possible from what I’ve seen so far out of Probasco.
