The five players that I have highlighted below are all individuals that will be playing varsity this winter and could all potentially play high-level college basketball, when their high school careers come to an end in a few years.
(Please ignore the “Position Rank” # next to the athletes name. That is incorrect & not done by myself, that is the systems way of remember players as they have been mentioned in the past. Thank you for the understanding!)
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
To start off our Potential Top 5 list we have a player that is going to be in the debate for the #1 spot come December in Ari Phillips Ari Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA . Phillips is a 5’10 Point Guard, that is extremely skilled. She is very good with the ball in her hands coming down the court with the ability to score from all three levels at a high rate or the ability to create for others in a plethora of different ways. I’ve had a chance to watch Ari the past few months and she has been impressive against every team I’ve seen her take on. Her build, skill-set, knowledge of the game, and athletic ability all scream Division-1 player so far. This winter it’s going to be a unique situation for Phillips at Johnston High School. With a roster that holds multiple D1 commits/future commits on the basketball court, Phillips is going to have to make most of her opportunity coming off the bench and I think that’s just what she will do. She is too good to shrink when the lights get bright but until she goes out there and does it, it’s all speculation.
KeaOnna Worley KeaOnna Worley 5’4″ | PG Prairie | 2027 State IA is someone that has been spoken about for a few years now and it’s finally time for her to take the high school court this winter. Worley is a shifty and creative Point Guard with the ball in her hands. She does a great job of scoring on slower defenders off of the dribble or she can create at a high rate for the others around her with her smooth passing ability. When you watch Worley compete, you see her “feel” for the game is different from everyone else around her. The way she moves, carries herself on the court, and the skill-moves she pulls out in some moments are high-level, college moves. The only question I am going to have for Worley this season and in her high school career is, how good can she really be? Where is her ceiling? I’m not sure. Up until this point over the years, no one stops her from doing what she wants out there. When that finally happens, if it does happen, how will she pivot and react to it? Will she become better? Will she elevate others? If so, we are talking about a high Division 2/Division 1 player here.
Highlights
Aniyah Boens Aniyah Boens 5’8″ | CG DCG | 2027 IA makes this Potential Top 5 list like everyone because of her high ceiling moving forward and what I have seen out of her this past AAU season with Beyond Ball . Boens has a better than average mixture of size and skill for her age. She is a player that stands at around 5’11 with a guard like skill-set. In most situations, she has an advantage with her size and reach on her matchup. Will that size advantage continue on the high school floor? I’m going to say no but her skill-set will then have to take over to show everyone what she is really about. Overall Boens is a complete player, that works hard on both sides of the floor and doesn’t take any plays off. Her future is bright moving forward if she can make the right choices, in big moments, when she has the ball out there on the varsity floor. It’s important to be a great skill player but the best players, who play at a high college level, are great skill players AND they make the others around them better. I need to see that out of Boens before I can give her a nod to be on this Top 5 list of the 2027 class come December’s Update.
I would be hard pressed to find a more dominate Power Forward in the 2027 Class than Lillie Spicer Lillie Spicer 6’0″ | PF CR – Jefferson | 2027 State IA at this time. Now don’t get me wrong, there are taller players in this class but I don’t think anyone in the post is going to stop Spicer if she catches the ball with her back to the basket and with some time. Not to mention, that she is a high level rebounder and put back machine for whatever team she is lacing up with. This winter is going to show us all a lot about Spicer’s game, as I’m assuming she will see a good amount of time on the varsity floor, as the season progresses along. If she can demonstrate her complete footwork, dominate near the rim, and display her knowledge of the game at the varsity level, it’s going to open up a lot of eyes to potential recruiters out there moving forward.
