Continue ReadingOur first 2027 Player Rankings Update was published a year ago and ever since, we have been adding key contributors to our database. In this Rankings Update and throughout the rest of the week, we will be taking our first look at the Top 25 Players for this 2027 Class. Along with covering a handful of other prospects that may not have made the Top 25 cut-off at this time.
We will start things off below by breaking down our Top 5 ranking players and what their futures may hold on the hardwood.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Starting us off at the #5 spot in this Update is an individual that has demonstrated a high ceiling throughout her first 12 games on the varsity floor this winter for Waukee Northwest and that is Logan Vogt Logan Vogt 6’1″ | SF Waukee NW | 2027 State IA . Vogt is a competitor in every aspect of the word. She is only 15 years old and she already stands at 6’1 with a physical guard skill-set. Offensively, she has displayed the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack her opponent off the dribble, getting all the way to the rim on a consistent basis. If she happens to get cut off or stopped by her defender, she has the ability to pull up for a jump-shot from almost anywhere on the court. Either way, no matter how she is trying to score, the attempt always looks clean, fundamental, and on target. Defensively, with her reach she can stick with smaller opponents or switch onto someone larger in the post if need be. Usually causing some havoc or chaos. To begin her Freshman year, Vogt has averaged some decent numbers but nothing that is going to shock you. Looking toward her future, when you consider that she is tall, athletic, coordinated, physical, already producing at the varsity level, and that she understands the sport from a strategically level. You can imagine what she could become.
A player that has been highly talked about the past few seasons while coming up the ranks is KeaOnna Worley KeaOnna Worley 5’4″ | PG Prairie | 2027 State IA of Prairie High School and she falls into our #4 spot in this Update. Worley is the best pass-first PG in this Class. She is skilled in everything she does. She moves effortlessly with the ball, demonstrates elite “feel” for the game, and she gets everyone involved at a high rate while NOT turning the ball over. In her first 10 varsity games, Worley has 40 assists and 12 turnovers. This is the biggest margin BY FAR out of this 2027 Class for the PG position when it comes to assist-to-turnover ratio. If you are looking at her ceiling as a recruit, I’m on the fence where I would put her at this moment. She has a D1 skill-set. In the correct system, she could thrive. No doubt about it. I think over the next few seasons, if her play-style continues to grow and she continues to put up numbers like this, she is going to be fielding a lot of recruiting calls before her high school career comes to a close.
Highlights
Coming in at our #3 spot is Daya Phillips Daya Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA . Phillips is the twin sister and counter-part to Ari Phillips Ari Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA , another player that we will see in these Top 5 Rankings. I would say that Daya has a similar game to her sister but works in different ways. From everything I have seen, Daya is much better at producing off of the ball. Whether it’s knocking down a shot, cutting to the rim, or finishing through contact after a post move. If you give her any light to the basket while she attacks downhill, it’s either going to end in a successful finish or free throws. I had a chance to see Phillip and her Johnston Dragons team compete recently. All I can say is, they looked in top shape. Their roster is primed for a big post season run because of their upperclassman and team play. With a versatile player like Phillips, she can be thrown into any situation successfully and that has kinda of been the case this high school season. Whatever the coach needs from her, she delivers. I’m excited to see how this group ends their year and how Phillips transitions back to the Travel game. She killed it on the road this past Spring and I expect the same in 2024.
The game of basketball seems to come easy to the most skilled but that concept is deceiving. Usually the most skilled players are some of the hardest working people in the gym and that’s the case with the player that falls into our #2 spot, Ari Phillips Ari Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA . Phillips is a Combo Guard. She can handle, score, rebound, and defend all at high rate while possessing good size at 5’10. There isn’t anything on the court that Phillips can’t do right now besides guard a true Center and that’s solely because of size reasons. She has a shifty handle, great mindset while attacking, she doesn’t settle for bad shots, and she produces off of the ball. This high school season, Phillips would have started for any other varsity team in the state but with the Dragons, she is seeing the floor in small doses. This isn’t anything shocking when you consider that this is a Top 25 team in the country according to ESPNW. Over the next few seasons, the entire state is going to hear about Phillips and what she can do. I expect as the year goes on, her stat lines will continue to grow. If she can take it one step at a time, she is going to be a star of this Dragon team before you know it.
I had my questions about Melina Snoozy Melina Snoozy 5’11” | SF Bishop Heelan | 2027 State IA coming into her Freshman year but she is the real deal. A player that competed in her home state of SD last season at the varsity level as an 8th grader, has come into Bishop Heelan and made her presence known to start off her high school career. Snoozy is a 5’11 Combo Forward. She can do a little bit of everything with her size but also understands situations really well. As an 8th grader, she dominated a lot of the games she played in, averaging a double-double at the varsity level. She isn’t doing that at a bigger school this season but she is leading her undefeated Crusaders team in scoring with 18 PPG on 54% shooting, all while dishing out some assists and recording some rebounds at the same time. Coming into this season, Snoozy sat with a handful of MM – D1 offers. I’m expecting that list to grow exponentially in the upcoming months. With that being said, the Top 5 of this 2027 Class is loaded with talent. If she wants to keep this #1 spot moving forward, the continuous expansion of her game, like everyone else’s, is going to be a major key.
