In this article, we are going to cover a couple of players that have displayed that they are obsessed with this game and the process of it all. They don’t care about the end result, all they care about is becoming 1% better each day.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Rylee McLucas Rylee McLucas 6’0″ | SF Millard North | 2025 State NE transferred high schools this season and I had my doubts but she has really been a productive and important addition to the Millard North roster. On a team that has some ballers, McLucas has been doing a great job of showing off her versatility and knowledge of the game, each night she takes the floor. When I had the chance to see McLucas at our showcase prior to the season, she dominated most of the matchups she came across. My only problem was that she was killing her competition with the same move, over and over, only going one direction. This is what worried me at first. I was curious if she could adapt to being cut off or adapt to a bigger player being in her way and that answer is a resounding, YES! She can adapt and with her natural height, she is in a mismatch, a majority of the time to most people that are across from her on the high school floor. I’m not sure where McLucas will end up for her collegiate career but she has a base that any good college coach could build on moving forward.
Leading up to this season, Olivia Brown Olivia Brown 5’6″ | SG Bridgeport | 2027 NE was someone that I knew about from her play this past AAU season. Brown is a Guard, that is talented in a plethora of different ways. Offensively, she is very skilled in the aspects of Scoring and Assisting. She demonstrates a beautiful shot-release from any distances on the floor but is also skilled enough to put in the ground and get all the way to the rim. Defensively, she understands to jump toward the ball and isn’t afraid to bump someone every once and awhile. You can tell that Brown has become this type of player because of her endless work in the off-season. If she isn’t in a game, she is preparing for one on some level. This season Bridgeport High School is undefeated at 17-0 and a big reason for that is Brown. She has been a player that has come onto the varsity floor and has let her presence be known early on in her career. There is not doubt about that.

A prospect that you might not be familiar with but you should be is Sadie Cornell Sadie Cornell 5’5″ | PG Superior | 2025 NE of Superior High School. Cornell is a a 5’5 Guard with quick hands and feet on both sides of the floor. She is someone that has an act for being in the right place at the right time on most occasions, usually leading to a takeaway and layup for someone on her Wildcats team. Throughout this groups first 19 games this season, Cornell is averaging over 5 SPG. That is an eye-opening number in anyway you put it. This stat says a number of things but most importantly, it says she works hard on defense. It says that she doesn’t give up on plays, no matter the situation and that she would do anything for the teammates around her. If you are looking for a Guard that stays dedicated and locked in at a high level, I’d take a look at Cornell. She makes things happen and that has been on full display this season.

Sienna Houghtelling
Sienna Houghtelling
Sienna Houghtelling is a 6’0 Post player, that plays her position to a T. On most occasions, Houghtelling is usually beating her opponents defensively. Don’t get me wrong, she is averaging 7 PPG and 7 RPG this season for her Medicine Valley High School team but she is also averaging 4.6 BPG. This means that each contest, in someway Houghtelling is blocking around 5 shots, while altering many, many more. If you look around, the video that you will see of Houghtelling is from her season on the volleyball court. She was her team’s MH and an efficient one at that. Not to mention that she seems play with a lot of emotion. If her team gets a big point, she is the first one to celebrate it and if something goes wrong, she is the first to try and cheer everyone up. All in all, if you can play in control with this emotion and natural height, you are sure to produce in some way and Houghtelling is doing that this winter.
Avery O’Boyle
Avery O’Boyle
The GICC Crusaders are 16-1 to kick off this 2023-2024 season. They are winning most of their games by a large margin but there have been a few close calls up to this point. Someone for this group that is registering stats in every positive category is their Shooting Guard, Avery O’Boyle. O’Boyle lives up to her positions name, Shooting Guard. Her job is to score for this team, while also grabbing a few rebounds, dishing out a few assists, and creating a number of turnovers. On the season, O’Boyle is averaging 9.7 PPG on 39% shooting, 3.9 RPG, 2.6 APG, and 2.2 SPG. You can’t put up these numbers without being dedicated in some sort of way. There are a number of these stats that you can attribute to hard-work and hustle. I can’t tell what the future holds but I do know that GICC will be a tough team to beat the rest of this season on this pace.
