We are going to learn a lot more about each individual and how they play against tougher competition, in a bigger stage for most situations.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Valley High School made it to the State Tournament this past week and put together a season to remember. They had long win streaks, intense games, hard-fought wins, and tough losses. In the end, they were one of the best teams in the 5A Class as a whole on the season and that is something they should be proud of. A prospect that was vital in their success this Winter was Guard, Tylee Weite Tylee Weite 5’10” | SG Des Moines – Valley | 2027 State IA . Weite stands at 5’10 and she can score the basketball at a high rate. This season, all year long she demonstrated that she can step-up in big moments and come up clutch for her team. She is versatile enough in her game to be able to move between the 1-4, doing a lot off of the ball to produce for her team without having to score, even though she can score with the best of them at her age level. There are a lot of players to like in this Class and Weite may turn out to be one of the best.
Whenever I had the chance to see Lillie Spicer Lillie Spicer 6’0″ | PF CR – Jefferson | 2027 State IA this winter, she impressed. She demonstrated on more than one occasion that she has size, an aggressive demeanor, high IQ inside the lane, and balanced footwork. Whenever she had the chance, she would post with her back to the basket, usually ending the play in a strong move at the rim. Defensively when she stayed down on pump fakes, she was a game-changer. This Spring Spicer will be with her talented Team Iowa 2027 BlueStar team. If she can continue to put up productive numbers, while dominating her compeeition physically, then she is going to be prepped for a big Sophomore year going into the 2024-2025 High School season with her CR – Jefferson team.

Macey O’Brien Macey O’Brien 5’9″ | CG Waterloo Columbus | 2027 State IA is going to join up with the Iowa Ball Stars once again this AAU season on the road and I can’t wait to see the type of season that they piece together. This Iowa Ball Stars team is impressive. They have more than one talented prospect on their roster that can really play and I’m sure that will be pretty obvious this year. As it pertains to O’Brien, she did a great job of leaving her mark this high school season on the Varsity floor but I really need to see it against some other competition. If she comes out this Spring and does what I think she can do, she is going to continue to be a higher ranking player in this really talented 2027 Class. She has natural length, quick feet, and in-depth knowledge of game when it comes to situation play. When you hear about this type of player it sounds noteworthy but seeing it for yourself is a whole other ball game. There are times when O’Brien really impresses and I can’t wait to see that more, first hand this Spring.

When I saw Graclyn Eastman Graclyn Eastman 6’0″ | SF Bishop Garrigan | 2027 State IA compete at the State Tournament last week, I was impressed but for different reasons then I would have originally thought going into it. Eastman has stands at 6’0 and she moves like a Guard on the floor but her best ability is definitely within 12 feet of the rim. Offensively when she catches in the mid-post or in open space at the three point line, she has an act for being able to put the ball on the floor and get to whatever spot she wants to. Defensively, she is the type of player that other opponents need to account for. If they beat their original defender off of the dribble, Eastman is going to be waiting on help-side to come over for a block or to alter that opponents shot attempt in some way or another. This Spring Eastman will be on the road competing with a Pure Prep program that has a good resumé. If she does her thing and they put her in the right positions to succeed, everyone around the Midwest is going to realize how good she could be moving into the near future.

Cassidy Danburg Cassidy Danburg 6’0″ | PF Waukee NW | 2027 State IA didn’t see the floor a ton as a Freshman this year and that’s okay. She had the chance to sit back and learn from the talented prospects in front of her within their Waukee NW system. This Spring Danburg is going to be a main producer for her Iowa Battlers team and I can’t wait to see what she can do. Last time that I saw her play against players her age, she did more than hold her own. Every time she was on the floor, she took her time and created a lot of success for herself by rebounding and defending near the hoop, while also scoring whenever the opportunity would present itself. Other than Spring ball, I have a feeling that Danburg is going to be a big piece of her Wolves team for the next three seasons at the Varsity high school level. She has the base to be one of the most productive Forwards in this Class. She just needs to stay motivated and continue to expand her game. Something that can be said for everyone at this point in their playing careers.
