In the article below, we highlight five prospects that did a great job of showing out in their own special ways throughout the past few days, while helping their teams compete each contest.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Last weekend when I was in to watch the Missouri Phenom Iowa 17U team they were missing a few pieces to their roster that have a lot of ability and skill. One of those prospects was Cora Widel Cora Widel 6’1″ | SF Maquoketa | 2026 State IA and this weekend, she had her arsenal on full display. Widel is a 6’1 Combo Guard/Small Forward, that has shown a lot of talent on both sides of the floor throughout her career. This weekend she was hitting big shots from all three levels, scoring near the hoop or behind the three point line with her fundamental shot form. She was defending at a high rate, getting her hands on tips/deflections and a ton of blocks. All while communicating to her teammates as to what was going on, on the floor at all times. Prior to this AAU season, Widel has had interest from the collegiate level from all divisions. If she keeps up the production she showed this weekend, this interest is only going to grow over time.

I’ve highlighted Mylee Stiefel Mylee Stiefel 5’5″ | CG Burlington | 2027 IA this past 6 months at the high school level but she is really coming into her own in all facets of the game. This weekend in Wisconsin, Stiefel was doing a little bit of everything while commanding her team’s offense. She is a Guard, that can get down hill in a hurry with her killer crossover. She is very good at shifting her opponents weight off of the dribble, getting them to lean a certain way before attacking their hips when going toward the basket. This past few days she also demonstrated that she can shoot it from deep at a consistent rate and she can facilitate for the others around her when the defense decides to over help. The future is bright with Stiefel. If she demonstrates over the next few months that she can do everything going left, that she is currently doing going right, she is going to be getting a lot of calls from D2 programs across the midwest before you know it.

Emily Larsen Emily Larsen 5’11” | SF Cedar Rapids Prairie | 2026 State IA has been taking over the Iowa AAU scene this past few months and she did more of the same things weekend. Larsen is shooting the ball at such a high rate, if she were to keep this up, there is going to be a D1 program or two that will be talking to her before this AAU season comes to an end. There was one game specifically this weekend where Larsen’s team was down by 1 with five minutes left in the contest and than she proceeded to hit four 3-pointers in a row to seal the game in the end after some free throws were shot. I saw Larsen first hand last weekend and she was fantastic. If she keep up this momentum, the sky is going to be the limit for her.

Layla Trytten Layla Trytten 5’9″ | CG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA is an underrated talent out of the state of Iowa because of how good her high school team is at Dowling Catholic. Trytten in almost any other program would be the star player and the prospect that all of her team’s action runs through. This AAU season with her All Iowa Attack team, this has been obvious to anyone who is watching. She is scoring in bunches, creating and distributing at a consistent rate, and staying in front of some really good opponents on the defensive side of the basketball. This upcoming winter at DC, they are going to return another loaded roaster and starting line up. I imagine that Trytten is going to see a lot of time on the floor but we will just have to wait and see. If she does continue to get those big opportunities, she has demonstrated that she is going to make the most of it. That’s for sure.
Bartlett and her Kingdom Hoops 17U Elite team had a good weekend at Hyvee Arena out in KC. Bartlett, a University of South Dakota Basketball commit, was locked in over the past couple of days. She was being the PG that all of her teammates could trust in, she was taking her personal matchup off the dribble and getting to almost any spot she wanted offensively, and she was getting active on the defensive side of the floor by creating a lot of turnovers throughout her contests. There were some contests that she played better than others but every game, she made her presence known in one way or another. Like last Winter, Bartlett is going to be her team’s heart and soul this upcoming season. If she stays locked in like this, with the pieces they have moving up within that program, she is going to shine. She usually always does but this season they will get another good shot at making the State Tournament if they work for each other. Something that is more than do-able at this point in the game.
