In this Rankings Update and throughout the rest of the week, we will be taking a look at our new group of Top 25 Players for this 2027 Class. Along with covering a handful of other prospects that may not have made the Top 25 cut-off at this time.
We will start things off below by breaking down our Top 5 ranking players and what their futures may hold on the hardwood.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Starting off in this Top 5 for the second Update in a row is Logan Vogt Logan Vogt 6’1″ | SF Waukee NW | 2027 State IA of Waukee Northwest at #5. Vogt is a talented prospect, that has great size and agility. When a player is standing at 6’1 and moves like Vogt does, it usually screams that they are going to be a Division-1/High-end D2 player at the end of the day but that’s only if they progress with their age and in this case, I think we are seeing that occur right before our eyes. She is going to have an important summer in-front of her but it seems like she is up for the challenge. Her Freshman season was an impressive one with Waukee NW but she still has a long way to go, like any recruit at this age. She has some raw tendencies that she will have to work on but everyone does. If she continues to work hard and produce like she did this winter, it’s going to be hard not to move her up this list eventually.
KeaOnna Worley KeaOnna Worley 5’4″ | PG Prairie | 2027 State IA is prepped for a big-time summer with Missouri Phenom out of Iowa and I’m sure she couldn’t be more excited. Worley is the best pass first Point Guard in this Class that I have seen so far this winter and that says something because there are a lot of talents players at the Freshman age-level currently. This high school season was an important one for Worley from an evaluation standpoint. She has always been much better than her competition, so it’s been nice to see what she can bring to the Varsity floor and she has not disappointed. She led this 2027 Class in Assist-to-Turnover ratio and her team won a lot of games while doing it. That’s a win in my book. If a college coach wants a skilled Point Guard, who is a fantastic facilitator and willing passer, while also being a great teammate, Worley could be your girl but as for now, she is going to hold our #4 spot in this Update.
Highlights
We have seen Daya Phillips Daya Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA is smaller doses this season for the Johnston Dragons but she has been productive every time she touched the floor, demonstrating that she is going to be ready to take over next season, when this group loses a few key Seniors due to graduation. From what I’ve seen as of late, Daya thrives as more of an off-guard compared to anything else which isn’t a bad thing. It means that she is good at producing without the ball in her hands and basketball is a game where you play without the ball 90% of the time. If you can adapt to situations and make yourself useful without scoring at a high rate or needing to be ball dominate, the more programs you can fit into in the long run so there is nothing wrong with that. As it pertains to her actual skill, it’s there and it’s superior to most other players her age out of this 2027 Class. She has dominant size at the Guard spot and she knows how to use it. She can knock down shots or finish through contact near the paint if given the opportunity. Over the next few years, this is going to be a prospect that gets better with experience and I can’t wait until everyone else notices how good she could truly be.
As this high school season has progressed on, Ari Phillips Ari Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA has had more and more opportunities to show what she can really do and it’s been impressive. When you consider the facts that this Johnston Dragon’s team is a Top 15 program in the country according to ESPNW, you start to realize just how much more impressive it is that any underclassmen would see the floor, especially Freshman but Philips is just that good. She has size, a handle, vision, the ability to finish with either hand through contact, and she isn’t afraid to mix it up with bigger opponents. When she is taking her defender off of the dribble, she creates some impressive space and that space can be used for herself or another open teammate. This Dragons team is prepped for a successful rest of their State Week. If they stick to the plan and players like Philips do their thing, they should have no worries looking toward their immediate future.
There was a lot of hype coming into the season surrounding Melina Snoozy Melina Snoozy 5’11” | SF Bishop Heelan | 2027 State IA and I can confidently say that all that hype is legit because she can really play. While only being a Freshman, standing at 6’0 she can do almost anything asked of her on the floor. Offensively she can spread out the defense and knock down shoots from deep. She can attack off the dribble, getting all the way to the rim with either hand or she can catch and square-up to the rim, where she is deadly in the midrange. If Snoozy and her Bishop Heelan team were to have finished off this past week by winning a 4A State Title, she would have been the MVP. As for her future, just put it this way. I’ll be surprised if she comes back to BH next fall with less than 10 Division-1 offers.
