Continue ReadingIt’s not often you see a player nationally ranked in any class in Kentucky, but the 2025 class alone has three nationally ranked players per ESPNw. This is a very special group of players and while I’m sure you know those nationally-ranked players and some of the ones that have already committed, I want to mention some of the others that should be on college coaches radars this spring and summer. Please note that there are a lot more 2025 players in the state that have D1 or D2 potential, so I’ll try to get another article out soon with some more players listed.
Mbugua just opened back up her recruitment after being committed to Liberty University since she was in 8th grade. I think a lot of people’s eyes were opened at the KHSAA Sweet 16 when Grace put on an absolute show at Rupp Arena. I had multiple D1 coaches reach out to me about Mbugua, so I can only imagine the interest she was personally receiving. It’s hard for any college to not want a 6’4 versatile player who proved she can score inside and out in a variety of ways against one of the top defensive teams in Kentucky, if not the best. Not to mention, an opposing team who has a starting lineup made up of five D1 & D2 players. Mbugua’s team ultimately lost 65-63, but Mbugua finished the game with 34 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals on 66.7% shooting overall (12/18) and 75% from the 3-point line (3/4). I believe she will pile up D1 offers this offseason now that her recruitment is open.
Rhodes will be playing with West Virginia Thunder’s 17U S40 team and is poised for a big offseason. She already holds some offers, but I think she has a chance to get a lot more this spring/summer. In her junior season, Rhodes led Frederick Douglass in scoring at 16.4 PPG while shooting over 35% from 3 and 81% from the free throw line. She has deep range on her shot and you can’t give her much space without her making you pay. Rhodes is not just a shooter though, she can handle the ball and makes great drives to the basket while also being able to pull-up in the midrange. I think any coaches that have shown interest in the past will be impressed by the way she’s grown her game since last AAU season.

Green has garnered some D1 offers already, but playing with WV Thunder’s 17U UAA Riego team should cause more and more offers to roll in as the sidelines will be filled with college coaches in every live period event. She has a long, athletic frame and every time I watch her play, it feels like she’s grown her overall game more. Green’s high school team finished with a 22-9 record and she led them in points, rebounds, and field goal percentage, averaging 15.6 PPG and 9 RPG while shooting 61.3% from the field. Her ability to elevate over defenders to knock down shots has greatly improved over the last year and she has added even more nice moves to help her create space.

When it comes to Nichelson, the more coaches who get eyes on her, the more offers she’s going to get. She was a big sleeper in the 2025 class until coaches caught her playing with ETA Thunder last summer. Expect even more of that this summer. Nichelson is the kind of player that fits the current college landscape perfectly. She can create on her own, has strong handles, is a tough 3-level scorer, and plays with a fearless mindset. In her junior season with North Laurel, she helped lead them to a 29-6 record while averaging 18 PPG and 9.8 RPG, both team-bests. She also shot 58.5% from the field, 47% from 3, and 78.5% from the free throw line. You won’t find many guards with a higher efficiency than Brooke Nichelson Brooke Nichelson 5’10” | CG North Laurel | 2025 State KY .
The toughness Frazee showed at the state tournament only adds to how impressive she was this past high school season for Franklin County. She sprained her ankle to the point that the trainers had her in crutches almost instantly and yet, she was on the court the very next game ready to do everything she possibly could to help her team. She could barely walk on it when the final buzzer sounded, but she went just as hard as she always does every second she was on that court. Frazee was her team’s leading rebounder and 2nd leading scorer this season, averaging 9.8 PPG and 6.5 RPG on 59% shooting overall. Her hands and touch around the basket are always impressive.

Gibson’s recruitment has really picked up in the last year and after a strong high school season, she’s poised and ready to open even more eyes this AAU season with IGB 17U GUAA. In her junior season at Notre Dame Academy, she averaged a team-high 13.1 PPG and 7.8 RPG while also shooting a team-best 52.4% from the field. Gibson is a high IQ player with great size who holds multiple offers, including from Ivy League schools. While I think college coaches will be very impressed by what she brings to the court, I think they’ll be even more impressed by the potential she shows as they watch the ways she’s improved in the last year.
The 6’0″ guard will be playing on Kentucky Premier ‘s 17U EYBL team this year after a strong summer on their 16U EYBL team last year. It’s safe to say that Johnson can really put the ball in the basket. In her junior season at Anderson County, a lot of opposing teams put an emphasis on shutting her down. In return, she averaged 19.1 PPG and 6.6 RPG, both of which are team-highs, while helping lead her team to a 32-3 record. Johnson found ways to score despite constantly facing double-teams and being face guarded. Her scoring was critical to her team’s success, but she can do much more than score and I think coaches will be impressed by her ball handling and passing this summer.
How many colleges have put an emphasis on outside shooting this season? I mean FGCU’s entire roster was listed as “shooters” rather than guards or forwards. Well Molden definitely can light it up from the 3-point line. She’ll be playing on Kentucky Premier ‘s 17U EYBL team this summer after leading the state in 3-point field goals made per game in her high school season. Molden averaged 3.3 made 3’s per game on 46.2% shooting from deep. She averaged 16.3 PPG, so she can obviously score in other ways as well, but she’s definitely one of the top shooters around. She has deep range, excellent form, and a quick release on her shot. Molden is also a high IQ player overall.
