June 14th-15th I attended the annual Section-7 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ. I watched as many Arizona teams as I could over the two days, as there were around 40 teams who represented the prestigious event.

Here were some of the top freshman guards I viewed

[player_tooltip player_id='925236' first='Francesca' last='Sofia'] Liberty (Pictured)

A pure PG who sees the court well. She had a few needle threaders and up the court ropes. She is very quick and can get into the teeth of the defense and uses the floater. She has quick hands on defense to collect steals. Off the ball she will cut for open spots in the defense. She scores with parking lot threes, floaters and euro steps. She makes the game so easy for her teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id='797310' first='Cherri' last='Hatter'] Desert Vista

A gifted scoring PG who is hyper competitive on defense. She collects steals in bunches and rebounds well. She has a big bag to score with step back threes, a good initial first step and will then get into the teeth of the defense and drive and kick it to a teammate in stride. She has spin moves, hesitations, step thrus and straight speed dribbles to free herself to get space. Her spin move into a pull-up is nearly impossible to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id='790615' first='Kaliha' last='Norwood'] McClintock

A good framed lefty combo guard with length and size. She is very fluid and is an all-around incoming freshman guard. She is a strong two-handed passer down the court and talks on defense. She takes long strides to get to the rim and is an active defender with rebounds and blocking shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='797311' first='Mariah' last='Brownlee'] Millennium

A pure point guard who is an easy and efficient scorer. She is quick on defense and will even block shots. She will dribble past the defender and make the play. She calmly plays at her own pace and plays within herself and rarely forces the issue. When she is aggressive, she will get to her spots to score from both perimeter levels.

[player_tooltip player_id='755356' first='Elleigh' last='Molinar'] Perry

A lead guard will be the next up to lead the team but she is already getting playing time. She can hit the three off the catch and guides the offense when she gets into the game off the bench. She is a true gamer and is not afraid of the moment.

[player_tooltip player_id='921161' first='Tylaiah' last='Wily'] Gilbert

A pure point guard who directs the offense. She has quick hands on defense and has the speed to jet to the basket. Shes sees the court and smartly changes speeds. She can shoot it from the perimeter and get to the basket or pull-up.

[player_tooltip player_id='924683' first='Payton' last='Sword'] Basha

An undersized point guard is a highly skilled shooter. She sees the court and has real court vision already. The lefty can sling it from the three point line off the catch or hesitate and freeze the defense to burst by. Her shooting, feel and IQ jump off the page.
