The final grassroots tournament of the season that I was able to attend was The National Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. The Kentucky Exposition Center was filled with talent on 50 courts all under one roof. Here's a look at a few players in the class of 2028 who performed well.

Slanger had an impressive summer in AAU basketball, and the National Championship was no different. Kenley works hard every second she's on the court. In a close game, she made a nice two-foot finish at the rim and then stole the ball to score another bucket. She helped lead her team to a national championship. She's going to be a freshman worth keeping an eye on.

Wypych made a strong impression throughout the summer while playing with her 2028 team. In the last few tournaments, she also played for the 2026 squad and demonstrated her ability to perform well against older players. Her quick crossover dribble allowed her to bypass defenders, and she effectively used an up-and-under move near the basket that was difficult to defend against. Addison is a threat from long range and should not be left open, as she is able to knock down shots from deep. Expect a great freshman season from this Rockford Ram!

Bires had a great summer playing basketball with her [program_tooltip program_id='713024' first='Michigan' last='Drive Premier'] team. She is a strong post player who effectively seals her defender to get into a scoring position and has excellent footwork around the rim. She works hard to secure rebounds on both ends of the floor. Kendall will be a player to watch for the next few years.

Stuck continued to get better all summer and saved her best for last at The National Championship, helping her team win a national championship. Ashtyn is a long, athletic guard who works hard on the defensive end of the court. She had multiple steals jumping the passing lanes. She will be a freshman to watch at Byron Center this winter.

Laster had a great summer with her Mystics team. She is intense on the defensive end of the floor and has a high basketball IQ. She drove into the lane and finished through contact. In a tight game, she had a strong and-one finish, which hyped up her team. Keep an eye on Jayla as she gears up for a big freshman season.

Arnold made a strong impression all summer with her performance on the Mystics team, and the National Championship was no different. She excels as a rim protector and demonstrates excellent footwork around the basket. Arnold also works diligently on the offensive boards to create more scoring opportunities for her team. Being one of the top centers in the class of 2028, Ellee will be exciting to watch in the coming years.

Mahabir had an amazing summer with her Mystics team and performed well at the National Championship. Kaiya sets a fast pace and has excellent court vision, leading the break. She capitalizes when teams leave her open behind the arc. I admire the intensity with which she plays, especially on the defensive end of the floor. Midland has some talented players joining next winter, and they will be enjoyable to watch for years to come.

Valentine continues to impress me every time I watch her play, and the National Championship was no different. She is a smooth guard who can handle the ball well and has great court vision. She is able to make things happen in the open court for her team, getting downhill and finishing through taller players. I'm excited to watch Lyla play this winter.

The final grassroots tournament of the season that I was able to attend was The National Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. The Kentucky Exposition Center was filled with talent on 50 courts all under one roof. Here's a look at a few players in the class of 2028 who performed well.
