No more being the new freshies on campus no more. Now it's your second year, you can kind of settle down and get into a solid routine. The 27 class across the state has talent within. I had mentioned in previous articles girls coming into high school don't sit any more their freshman year, they are thrown into the fire and then it's sink or swim. The 27 class had girls that swam and did even more.

Top to bottom, there is talent within these borders. Where this talent is slated on playing at the next level, well that's not for me to decide. However, I will say this class has a lot of contributors who will be turning the corner this upcoming season. What do I mean by that? You will have kids who step up into bigger roles now that they have a better understanding and grasp of concepts and the speed of the game. I really like this 27 class. There is a little bit of everything in it. Once this class gets settled in, they will be an exciting bunch to watch.

Throughout the state, girls are turning college coaches' heads left and right. Some may have already attracted some big D1 schools, but don't let that deter the growth of everyone. It's still early on in their high school career and better things are coming. Here are some young ladies who are going to have a big-time sophomore season. They will be counted on, given more responsibilities, and will be equipped to excel.

[player_tooltip player_id='801932' first='Channing' last='Jones'] (6'0/So./F/ Kirkwood)- Super fun kid to watch, if you are a basketball head, think a Lamar Odom type. This kid can score the basketball from multiple spots on the floor. Can create mismatches inside and outside the arc. Has a quick first step that enables her to plant her inside foot and spring into her mid-range jumper. She can finish around the rim with ease. Love her jumping ability. Defensively, she is solid. She blocks shots, gets rebounds, clogs the passing lanes. Look for her to have a solid year as she gains her footing and establishes her presences in the district.

[player_tooltip player_id='821748' first='Lilly' last='Teague'] (5'7/So./G/ USJ)- Multi-sport athlete who has range in her game. Athletic kid who can shoot the lights out from the arc at a consistent clip. She contributes all across the board, assists, rebounds, steals, pretty much anything to help aid in her team's success. This kid is a grinder. A heady ball player who makes the right choices at the right time. Her athleticism allows her to read and react, capitalizing on an opponent's mistake. Look for her to continue to grow and gain even more confidence. This kid is special and like I said earlier, she is just getting started.

[player_tooltip player_id='821721' first='Malea' last='Masingale'] (5'10/So./F / McMinn Central)- Fearless.Confident. This kid can absolutely hoop. She has such a nice touch on the ball, she finishes with ease. She can shoot it at a consistent clip from all 3 levels, so her ability to react to what the defense gives her is pretty good. She can put it on the floor, challenge opponents around the rim, she just has an innate ability to score the basketball. She's a solid two-way player who will continue to get better. She brings the energy nightly and her team feeds off of it. A great kid with tremendous upside.

[player_tooltip player_id='821728' first='Alayna' last='Duhart'] (5'11/So./C/ Brentwood Academy)- An undersized post who can get the job done around the blocks. She is a force down low, establishing a presence like none other. She has a bag of back to the basket moves that enables her to finish around the rim. Has a mid-range game too to go along with her ability to be used in the screen action game. One of her best attributes is her ability to gain rebounds. Offense, defense, either or, this young lady finds a way to gain an extra possession. She has been battle tested and has grown each time she has stepped onto the floor. Look at her to play an even bigger role in the Lady Eagles attack. Solid kid who is on the upswing.

[player_tooltip player_id='822224' first='Jayda' last='Robinson'] (6'1/So./C/ CPA)- Her stock is about to go through the roof. A versatile big who can face up or play with her back to the basket. Mid-range and in, that's her money area right there. She's going to challenge the opposite and throw her frame into her opponent. Like I said, she isn't afraid of contact. A physical being who won't be denied. Defensively, she takes up space and makes passing lanes look full. She rebounds, blocks shots, eliminates any opportunity for opponents. She's an absolute dawg and when everything clicks, she is going to be hard to handle. Look for her to continue to grow and watch her stock rise as she gains more court time.
