Conway “Lady Cats” Season Preview

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>When you talk about Girls high school basketball in central Arkansas, Conway High School Lady Wampus Cats will definitely be the topic of discussion. Ashley Hutchcraft with 7-time state finals appearances, winning 3 championships in a 15-season career as head coach has talent at every position to ensure that the "Lady Cats" continue to build on their dynasty! Recently committing to UCA is senior <strong>Emerie Bohanan</strong>, a true leader who will be key in Conway's lineup, along with <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='465492' first='Samyah' last='Jordan']</strong> another 1 of 8 seniors on the roster. Samyah and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1056381' first='Alivia' last='Cox'], </strong>sister of [player_tooltip player_id='465503' first='Alexis' last='Cox'], should have huge roles this season due to unfortunate injuries. Conway added size with sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='579754' first='Libby' last='Counts']</strong>, a 6'1 post. In addition, there's the talented left-handed freshman phenom <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1090383' first='Kylie' last='Johnson']</strong> who adds the icing on the cake! I've watched a lot of videos on this girls' team, but I'm honored to be able to see them practice live! Quiet and humble, Samyah is the opposite when playing. A good mid-range shooter who can step behind the 3pt line and sink em too! Tenacious on defense which leads to most of her scoring in transition. Jordan has that X factor presence with making tough shots over multiple defenders, being unselfish, or getting that much needed defensive stop! Her quickness and ability to create in transition is one of the reasons University of Central Arkansas recruited this special player. Her open court defense sneaks up on teams who don't see her in transition, which leads to her stealing the ball or even showing off her "hops" for a block. She has a good work ethic that shows every time she hits the floor. Her strength is shooting, and her development is her shot selection. Which is natural for her at the high school level. When asked what she needs to work on she replied, "ballhandling and shooting..." With hard work she can accomplish her personal goals and more. That speaks volumes about her attitude towards basketball. This unseen talent is the future star of this program. Her basketball IQ for a player her age is special. Averaged 26 points a game for Junior High at Conway and it's going to be exciting watching her play. Change of speed, and playing aggressive with finesse sets her apart from her peers. Kylie finished all her right-hand layups.....but she's a lefty which will make it difficult for players to guard her. You heard it here 1st! Counts landed in Conway to add size and length in the paint. She can pound her way in blocks and battle for rebounds. The 6A Division will surely put her to the test.
