I love thinking about some of the old sayings that made absolutely no sense to me, like "the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores" and who knows, last century that probably meant something but you should show improvement at each stage. I caught a few who are already sending messages and not by Pony Express, here ya go

Jefferson is "long and athletic" which is and always be the base so what initially impressed me was her timing to block shots yet the more I watched, I saw her use her UPS to grab rebounds and score around the basket. Her upside is sold, she did a good job defending both in and outside the paint and she is definitely on my radar

Smith gave me the razzle-dazzle I needed to keep my adrenaline going and her fearless mindset playing against one of the top 6A squads in the area falls into the "it's not what you do, it's who you do it against" theory that hardly anyone gets. Her first step is nice as it helped her attack and score, but her jumper and court vision looked good. She also played solid defense but watching her play the passing lane JUST DID IT for me

Batiste was one of my many pleasant surprises after grabbing a glimpse of her high school squad earlier in the Conroe tournament, I got a better look at who she is and what she brings to the table. She's an athletic guard who uses her athleticism on both ends. "On the ball" pressure is nice, and so is her attacking the basket strongly off the dribble to finish. She showed me the "pull-up as well as the stop and pop" jumper and she played the passing lane

Smith had me drop that coveted #D1Lock on her the first time I saw her play and she's one of the top prospects in Texas, right now, I don't FABRICATE. I don't even take notes on her anymore, it's embedded in my head and all I look for is progression so seeing her pay both the 1 and 2 effectively was nice, her court vision in transition has shot up plus she's reading the floor defensively stronger

LaCour is showing signs of being a "nightmare to defend" because she understands how to put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways. Yeah, she saw the floor in the set as well as in transition but watching her attack to score or pass looked very good. Her "stop and pop" jumper was smooth but her "catch and shoot" from deep was even smoother

Guidry was written about by my colleague @playerrimedies last week see evaluation here and she gave me a glimpse of what's coming at the PGH Freshman Showcase see evaluation here and everything I said I stand by except for her "on the ball" defense. I called it solid, it's more than solid and it appears she gets a kick out of frustrating the offensive player with pressure and THAT is something you can't teach

Herrera gave me my initial sighting at Who's NXT run by Pass Tha Balland is a perfect example of WHY I attend multiple events see evaluation here and again, #ThereIsNoMe so I called her "heady" and when you're running the 1, THAT is very important. She's finishing stronger after contact, court vision in transition looked good but seeing her "play the passing lane" had me smiling

Williams falls into that #sizedontmatter group and I had the use my search bar to see if I had seen her and YES I HAD see evaluation here. I loved her poise against the older players because she did a good job handling the ball and seeing the floor by older players who will play at the next level, that's key right there. Her upside is nice and her defense was strong

I love thinking about some of the old sayings that made absolutely no sense to me, like "the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores" and who knows, last century that probably meant something but you should show improvement at each stage.
