On October 27th I attended the Southern Arizona Showcase at Immaculate Heart Gym in Tucson, AZ hosted by John Millyard.

Here were the Standouts I viewed during the Top-20 Game:

Ranked Players

[player_tooltip player_id='607509' first='America' last='Cazares'] Pueblo

The top rated player in attendance backed it up. She has three point shooting range from the parking lot with off the dribble or catch pulls. She smartly changes her speeds to touch the paint and then will find a teammate. She scored it in transition and was competitive on defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='788336' first='Ylena' last='Gross'] Sunnyside

One of my favorite point guards in attendance has a tight handle and pounds the rock like a guy. She scores with runners, floaters, pull-ups off the dribble, blow bys to the basket and she is a tough on-ball defender

[player_tooltip player_id='788383' first='Leila' last='O'Dowd'] Rincon

Another high ranked player is tough and skilled. The strong power forward or stretch-five type can face-up and shoot the three with some consistency and confidence. She also works inside to score using her frame and rebounds well in heavy traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id='927949' first='Serenity' last='Hampton'] Ironwood Ridge

A bigger guard who has an impressive physical frame for her class. She loves getting downhill using a nice handle and has strong takes to the paint and handles bumps and will bounce off of defenders and score. She can grab a rebound and go up the court and take it coast to coast. When the initial freshman rankings come out, look for her to be in the top-20 somewhere.

[player_tooltip player_id='939734' first='Gaby' last='Oliver'] Palo Verde

A point forward or bigger combo guard will be a stock riser in the rankings the next go around. She plays with some swagger and has next level court vision and will shoot the three. But her poise with the ball and some needle thread passes turned some heads.

[player_tooltip player_id='558904' first='Nevaeh' last='Urenda'] Flowing Wells

A recent stock riser in the last rankings is a real point guard who sees the court well. She is a dimer who sees plays developing quickly. She handles it well in tighter spaces and can control the pace to a game.

[player_tooltip player_id='921151' first='Janae' last='Pritchett'] Palo Verde

A tough combo guard is a true two-way player. She seems to collect steals in bunches and is a tough on-ball defender who hustles for every loose ball. She will score getting downhill and show toughness in the paint.

Top Newcomers

[player_tooltip player_id='1052279' first='Angel' last='Amarillas'] Walden Grove (Pictured)

The surprise of the showcase was Angel. She is a face-up power type who has an easy stroke to the three. She will also work inside and score with drop steps with her right or left hand. She keeps the ball high and can handle it up the court. She can ball fake hand off and shoot it from mid-range. She was the best rebounder at the camp and finished the top-20 game with a double-double and the MVP.

[player_tooltip player_id='1052288' first='Francia' last='Rubio'] Douglas

A versatile wing forward who can score a few ways. She can get downhill and score in the paint, she will rip thru and go to work and give a hard ball fake and drive by. She will also shoot the three with a nice stroke.

[player_tooltip player_id='833021' first='Jaidyn' last='Saucedo'] Ironwood Ridge

A very fast sophomore point guard. She is a real runner with a quicker first step to get to the basket. She will leak out on the break and score with layups with some nice body control.

[player_tooltip player_id='892652' first='Destiney' last='Brown'] Tucson

Another extremely fast scoring guard seems to fly on the break. She is a straight line driver and if she gets a step on you, she will lay it in with her right hand. Defensively she will grab rebounds and block shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1052286' first='Scarlett' last='Ruiz'] Douglas

A quick shooting guard has some speed in the open court. She is a long strider and is another that is hard to keep up with on the break. She can shoot the three and plays the game with a big IQ.

[player_tooltip player_id='1052289' first='Cecilia' last='Burruel'] Nogales

One of the top shooters in attendance is a true zone buster. She has a pure stoke from the three point line and lets it go. She has one of the those shots that look good every time. She will have a big year for the Apaches.

On October 27th I attended the Southern Arizona Showcase at Immaculate Heart Gym in Tucson, AZ hosted by John Millyard.
