The first scrimmages / games of the year are just around the corner for WaMaC girls' hoops, where players will have their first opportunity to shake the rust off, fight for playing time, and just get buckets. I sat down and chose a few players in the conference who I think will stand out to start the 2024-25 season. These five players brought it last year...will they do it again? I can't wait to find out.

Williamsburg senior [player_tooltip player_id='896456' first='Carly' last='Rich'] was solid across the board last year and I envision more of the same this season. Despite her label as point guard she did a little bit of everything for the Raiders, including 13.3 points (while shooting at around a 40% clip), 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. With gained experience from now-junior teammates [player_tooltip player_id='502098' first='Kennedy' last='Skaggs'] and [player_tooltip player_id='656292' first='Zoe' last='Allen'], I think Williamsburg will feature a three headed monster with [player_tooltip player_id='896456' first='Carly' last='Rich'] leading the way.

There is a LOT to like about [player_tooltip player_id='782232' first='Lena' last='Evans']. To put it plainly, she can get buckets at every level. The Clear Creek Amana junior has a silky shot, is shifty and explosive off the dribble, can finish with both hands, makes smart passes under pressure and is intuitive on defense. She shot an impressive 38% from behind the arc last season while averaging 8.5 points per game. CCA fans can anticipate that Evans will pick up the slack following the graduation of senior Ava Locklear.

Maddie Pavelka is a mismatch nightmare for the Marion Wolves. The combo guard has a quick trigger (and a nice one at that), is comfortable shooting in traffic, and will hit shots in the midrange. What really impressed me about her game though is her assertion in the paint. She's not afraid to back down defenders and has a great array of moves on the block. Averaging 11.7PPG, 7.1RPG and 2.8APG, Pavelka will be a player to watch again this year in the WaMaC.

Brooke Krogmann is a bucket getter and a rim protector. Last year she averaged 18.7 points 10.2 rebounds and 5 blocks (yes, 5) per game, and she is set to have a stellar senior season. Krogmann runs the floor well, uses her length to her advantage on both sides of the ball, and has a lethal shot fake + step through combo that gives double-teams fits. With West Delaware returning their entire team for the 2024-25 season, I'd keep Krogmann and the Hawks on your radar.

[player_tooltip player_id='896461' first='Mya' last='Hillers'] is a versatile scorer that can drive, shoot, post up, and finish with her back to the basket. The power forward does most of her work in the paint but lit it up from deep multiple times last season, including a five three pointer night against West Delaware. Hillers is a great cutter and knows how to finish with speed, and has the skill to finish through double teams or around taller defenders. She averaged 10.4PPG last year and has the opportunity to headline her Pointers squad as a senior.
