Cross-town Clash: CR Washington Standouts

The Washington Warriors took home a huge win vs. Linn-Mar on Tuesday, and it came from a committee of scorers. Washington had a balanced attack from behind the arc and in the paint, converted at the free throw line, and had solid contributions off the bench. Who stuck out for CR Wash vs. Linn-Mar? Read below to find out.    Sira caused Linn-Mar trouble all game with her rebounding prowess and strength around the rim. She was relentless on the boards and finished the game with six offensive rebounds. Doumbia also showed finesse, shooting 5/7 on the night, finishing on the move on screen and rolls, and making all three of her free throw attempts. I was also impressed with Doumbia's discipline on defense. She played big minutes on Tuesday and didn't commit one foul. Sira is definitely a player to watch in the Cedar Rapids area and I'm eager to see her growth continue this season.     Two things can be true: Lily Belle Barker is both a hidden gem and a do-it-all leader for Cedar Rapids Washington. The 5'7" Junior hit the boards well, finishing with 8 on the night, and was a solid defensive presence for her squad. She also showed her ability to score at all levels. She can rip and go past defenders, hit floaters in the paint, cut off the ball for layups, and went a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line. In addition I really liked her euro-step finish through two Lion defenders late in the second half.     I loved Tashi Fields' energy on Tuesday. She's an athletic guard who defends at a high level without fouling and picks her spots well on offense. Fields showed her strength with the ball multiple times by driving on both sides of the rim and finishing off of two feet through contact. She also displayed her ability to change direction with a low crossover that led to an open layup. Late in the fourth, Fields also showed her poise and range by hitting an open three pointer during crunch time. I'm expecting Fields to continue to step up as the year progresses for this exciting sophomore.     Sam Becker is a long, smooth point guard with a high basketball IQ. From controlling the pace of the game to defending the opposition's best player, Becker affected the game on both ends of the court. She played big minutes and led her Washington squad in rebounds, steals, and assists. She scored in an array of ways too, including creating for herself off the dribble, a cut-to-post finish, and a step back three off of a ball screen. I really enjoy watching Sam play and I believe she is a player to watch in the MVC.     Jamiah Malone was an immediate spark off the bench for Cedar Rapids Washington and made a difference with her minutes on the floor. In her first possession in the game she made a slick bounce pass to hit a back door cutter for two. Then she beat the second quarter buzzer by turning the corner and finishing a lefty lay-in. Later in the fourth, Malone repositioned herself on the perimeter and drained a kickout three pointer. Overall, I really liked Malone's energy and ability to step up when her number was called.
