Happy Christmas Eve, PGH family!

I couldn't resist checking out the 4A-ranked matchup between Carlisle (11) and Gilbert (13) from December 20. I was impressed with players from both squads but for now my focus lies with the victors, the Carlisle Wildcats. Carlisle is a lengthy, athletic team with a number of dynamic players who can get things done on both ends of the floor. I hand picked a few of those players who stood out Thursday against Gilbert.

[player_tooltip player_id='880909' first='Kami' last='Clark'] is one of those aforementioned lengthy players from Carlisle that has a bright future ahead of her. She's a freshman with a strong basketball IQ - I thought she found open space very well on her cuts and showed maturity by stepping up when her team needed her down the stretch. She uses her body well in the paint, adapts to what the defense gives her, she's not afraid to get physical for rebounds, and I think she is a solid asset defensively too. Clark finished the game with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals - and most importantly, hit back-to-back buckets when the score was tied late in the fourth to put Carlisle ahead for good.

I don't need to say much about [player_tooltip player_id='502100' first='Macy' last='Comito'] that you don't already know - the future Iowa State Cyclone is on triple-double watch the second she steps on the floor. She's got the ball on a string, a silky jumper off the catch or the dribble, and she flat-out makes her teammates better. Offensive skillset aside, I think Comito's passing ability and court vision is one of my favorite aspects of her game. She is so good at drawing help defenders and finding open teammates for opens shots. Versus Gilbert, Macy finished with 18 points, 10 boards and 8 assists while going 7/14 from the floor.

Kira Fisk invigorated Carlisle off the bench and I really liked the lift she brought to her team. Fisk is a 5'10" power forward who plays much bigger than that - she's lanky and athletic and uses her height well. Offensively, Fisk is an opportunistic player who will seek out open space on cuts and face cut defenders if they aren't paying attention. She was a nightmare in Carlisle's zone as well and hunts down rebounds when the shot goes up. Fisk also has a soft touch - she has a smooth lefty turnaround as well as finesse in the paint over defender's hands. Shooting 48% from the field, Kira is also comfortable stepping out of the paint for confident jumpers.

Ella Smith's effort and effect on the game made her one of my favorite players to watch from Friday. Averaging 4.5 points and 3 boards per game off the bench, Smith came in and immediately made an impact with her hustle and work rate. She showed off a number of finishes in the paint including a fake spin fadeaway and a lefty baby hook, and when Smith rim runs, she sprints - it was fun to watch. Additionally Smith did a good job keeping the ball high off of pick and roll passes, stayed disciplined on wall-ups around the rim, and basket cut off of perimeter passes. Smith finished with a near double-double (11 points and 8 boards), and should be extremely proud of her efforts on Friday.
