With the playoffs tipping off later this week, here's a check in in on how the top teams in Class 6A shook out.

10. Sapulpa 14-10

New to Class 6A and never count out a team that has the recent winning pedigree that Sapulpa showed in Class 5A. They closed the season on a 5 game wining streak and have a good blend of rising young talent and experienced players who have been through the playoff wars. If there's a sleeper team to shake up the 6A east playoff landscape, bet on the Lady Chieftains.

9. Owasso 15-10

It's been an up and down year for a Lady Rams team that has handled some injury adversity. A key road win in January over Union proved to be the deciding factor in them finishing second in the District and earning an advantageous Regional hosting spot. They'll lean on dual sport star [player_tooltip player_id='900488' first='Madilyn' last='Hill'] to be their offensive anchor as they attempt to make another State Tournament run, just like last year.

8. Edmond North 19-6

For most programs, a 19-6 record and a regional host would be a strong year. Considering that from 2020-2024, Edmond North only lost 6 games over those four seasons (and won two State Titles), this has been a down year. Look for junior [player_tooltip player_id='578026' first='Johari' last='Hall'] to be a catalyst for another playoff run. She's matured into a complete offensive weapon, capable of dominating the paint and scoring from all over the floor.

7. Union 18-7

There might not be a hotter team in the state right now, as they closed the season on a 9 game winning streak. Including a blowout win over Bixby, and took down one of Oklahoma's best teams regardless of class, Douglass. They just barely missed out on hosting a regional due to a point related tiebreaker. As such, they'll have to travel to Edmond North's regional to reach Area. Which what better way to continue their ascension then by challenging one of the recent standard bearers in Oklahoma?

6. Mustang 20-4

It speaks to how strong the top of Class 6A is because the Lady Broncos recipe of shooting and defense is more than capable of having them walk away with the Gold Ball. In a recent win over El Reno, junior [player_tooltip player_id='396323' first='Mya' last='Alston'] looked like an absolute star. Turning defense into offense with transition points. While also getting to her spots in the half court and hitting silky smooth jumpers. There's also a lot of talent around her. And it's shown as their only loss in the second semester came in an overtime game against Edmond Memorial.

5. Bixby 21-3

There might not have been a better team in Oklahoma during the month of January, when the Lady Spartans went undefeated and won every game by at least 9 points. But the sharpshooting team was upended when they lost by 21 to the rising Lady Redhawks of Union. It was likely a good reset headed into the playoffs. Expect them to be one of the teams to come out of the east and extend their State Tournament appearance streak to 5.

4. Edmond Memorial 22-3

It's been a tale of two seasons for the Lady Bulldogs. December was a month filled with questions, a double digit loss at home to Mustang, then loses to Class 4A Fort Gibson and Class A Quinton at the Tournament of Champions. But a switch has been flipped since the calendar turned to 2025. [player_tooltip player_id='309983' first='Janiyah' last='Williams'] has been a young lady on a mission, including clutch shots to force overtime and then win it in overtime over Mustang. She's a walking double-double and good luck to teams trying to stop her and [player_tooltip player_id='315217' first='Avery' last='Hjelmstad'] as they begin their march for a Gold Ball.

3. Norman 21-2

Norman and their sharpshooting guards are absolutely torching teams, including last Friday's 71-44 win over their city rivals Norman North. They've received a boost to their talented backcourt with the return of [player_tooltip player_id='483160' first='Ady' last='Hybl'] from injury. [player_tooltip player_id='309980' first='Keeley' last='Parks'] has one of the most impressive recent resumes in Oklahoma, with a Gatorade Player of the Year already under her belt. And recently become Norman's all time leading scorer. But despite playing for a title in 2023, a Gold Ball has eluded her. Now her and her Tiger teammates have their sights set on gold.

2. Broken Arrow 22-2

One of only two teams to go undefeated in District play. They have a guiding star in [player_tooltip player_id='309979' first='McKenzie' last='Mathurin'], she's pouring in 23 points a game. But they also have a complete team around her. X-Factor shooters, an unselfish PG in [player_tooltip player_id='315224' first='Macy' last='Marraccini'], rebounding in [player_tooltip player_id='315202' first='Taryn' last='Jacobs'], and defense plus energy from [player_tooltip player_id='556754' first='Rekiah' last='Bowen']. The senior heavy Tigers are well positioned to make a run at the Gold Ball. Especially as they're hungry after narrowing missing out on a State Tournament appearance last year.

1. Putnam City North 23-1

The Lady Panthers only blemish was a in season tournament loss to Norman. Which they have since avenged, twice. They have blown out most of their competition. And also shown they can grind out the close games with the wins over Norman and a signature out of state win over Duncanville. The determination of the program was on full display in that comeback win over Norman, as they turned up the defensive pressure to end the game and made tough shots. Last year they reached the Class 6A State Tournament through the Area consolation bracket as a bit of an underdog. Now they begin their playoff journey with a target of their back, something the program seems to relish.
