The game that [player_tooltip player_id='1116158' first='Pyper' last='Ickes'] brings to the floor is interesting to say the least. Ickes competes as a guard for her St. Mary's team and she moves between the PG and the SG position. From what I've seen this Winter, she primarily is sitting at the SG spot but it just depends on who else is on the court with her at the time. Offensively, Ickes is a high level distributor, she can score at the rim on the attack or off the catch on the outside the perimeter, and she can even post smaller opponents with her back to the basket. She doesn't usually start there but if she notices the mismatch, she is quick in moving into the paint for a quick touch and easy bucket. St. Mary's put together a year to remember this past three months and Ickes played a vital role in every aspect of the game. In this Update, Ickes comes in at the #41 spot moving into the Spring season.

Aryanna Wegner of Norris High School joined up this season with the Titans and she helped them reach the State Tournament for their perspective Class. Wegner, a 6'1 PF/C, is someone that you have to account for her height, rebounding ability, and her calculated aggression by the hoop. You can tell that Wegner is still extremely raw but she has the basics down and a solid foundation to build on into the future. She has always been a threat with her ability to maneuver between the blocks on both ends of the ball. In the past Wegner has competed with the [program_tooltip program_id='712711' first='Nebraska' last='Lasers'] for AAU season. I'm not sure if that is still the case but if she gets in front of the right scouts these next six months, I'm sure she will grab the attention of a few.

I was very impressed with [player_tooltip player_id='1164887' first='Danielle' last='Seim'] of Kearney Catholic High School and the type of Winter she put together. Seim is a 6'0 SF, that has an impressive square-and-shoot ability from the midrange and from behind the three point line. She also is tall enough to post up anyone who might want to sit behind her in the paint. She has demonstrated that she can score going over either shoulder, going either way once she does catch so if you are the defense, you can't give her too much time. That's really the only weakness I see in Seim's game at the moment. Every thing takes a lot of time to unfold. If she quickens that up as she gets older, she is going to be a PROBLEM for others to contain.

Bridgeport put together another State run after another impressive Winter. Someone for their group that should play a role in their future success is PG/SG, [player_tooltip player_id='1190779' first='Elizabeth' last='Velazquez']. Velazquez makes smart decisions, she understands what she does best, and she loves to play off the energy of others. She gets down the floor in transition in quite a hurry, always looking for easy looks in the open court. I would categorize Velazquez as a pass-first type of guard, who looks for others but if opportunities open for herself, she is willing to take them. Defensively she is one that likes to get scrappy. She isn't afraid to use contact to make her opponent feel uncomfortable and that really wears on whoever is against her in a 1v1 matchup. I'd like to see what Velazquez does for AAU season. She will be competing with a tough program out of Colorado so the possibilities are endless.

[player_tooltip player_id='1217299' first='Grace' last='Samuelson'] is an athlete that stands out to anyone watching because of her mixture of athletic ability, discipline, and her natural instincts. When she is on defense, she always makes impressive plays with how well she can track and recover to the ball. If she is near the hoop and their is an attempt going up around her, she is usually going to get a finger-tip on it in one way or another, altering the shot into a miss. Offensively, she does do good things with her height but that's the side where she needs the most work as she gets older. If that comes together and her defense stays at this level, she should continue to progress as a competitor on the hardwood.

Compared to sitting back and watching things unfold in front of her, [player_tooltip player_id='1217277' first='Riley' last='Miller'] of Plainview High School likes to jump to action. Throughout the Winter Miller recorded a number of steals and deflections because she would pressure her Forward/Center matchup whenever they would catch on the outside. After Miller would get a steal, she has the ability to take it all the way and finish at the bucket over almost anyone else that might contest. You can tell that the competition that Miller is competing against isn't the best. That's just the reality. She shines and holds her own at a thorough rate but I would be curious to see how she does against skilled others, that might be alike to her in height.

One of the first things you notice about a player when you evaluate them is how well they move. Literally. How well they can run, move side-to-side, and the motion they run with all matters. [player_tooltip player_id='1105870' first='Kenzie' last='TenEyck'] moves differently. She is more smooth than most, never having a hitch in her step or anything like that. TenEyck is a lefty with a sweet shooting stroke from all three offensive levels. She is willing to go and finish at the hoop but she can also pull up from deep or from the midrange for a jumper whenever she has space. It's been a promising two season for Kenzie. If she stays on this pace, I'm sure she is going to continue to kill it and continue to make a name for herself throughout the state.
