As I share my lists of top, recently seen players by class I found it surprising how few sophomores were on varsity rosters. So, unlike my list of top 2025s and 2026s, my list of top 2027s is composed of eight instead of ten players. This list is only made up of sophomores I saw in-person at the bunch of games I saw during playoff time. Enjoy reviewing the list below.

The full range of Long's game was on display as she nearly carried her team to a 6A state tournament quarterfinal win. Scored at all three levels, went end-to-end off rebounds, commanded the paint on both ends of the floor and found teammates with quick and catchable passes. Check out more in this article:

I saw Schroeder in both sub-state and 3A state tournament games. She brought quickness, speed, solid positional size and a high motor to the table. Add in her ability to score the ball with range beyond the arc and off the drive and you had a physical, active presence on both ends of the floor. A strong rebounding guard as well.

Against Wichita East Fox could be found defending Blue Ace off guards, doing so with good quickness. She was a very effective off-ball threat interfering with and jumping passing lanes. She also handled with speed. In one instance she scored a nice transition layup against challengers. Her overall athleticism enabled her lock up a near double-double in points, swat 2 shots and generate a couple assists.

Bernal played a key role in the Dragons' run to the 3A state championship. She brought good size to the table against bigger teams, playing a significant defensive role. She handled the ball helping her guards against full court pressure. Huge was her effectiveness scoring inside 10' of the hoop and in knocking down her free throws. In her three state tournament games she went an impressive 13/15.

In Girard's 3A state quarterfinal loss to Silver Lake O'Rand showed herself to be a player to watch next season. Handling the ball well she showed scoring ability going left on the bounce. A back court pick of the Eagles' Kaylin Hanni highlighted her quick hands. Off the pick she finished the play off by scoring through contact. O'Rand scored 7 points, going 3/4 from the line, and collected 3 assists and 2 steals.

Hayes is among the impactful group of young, speedy and quick Junior Blues guards. I had the occasion to watch them online awhile back so seeing her again at the 6A state tournament was something I looked forward to. Hayes is strong shooter that teams better keep track of. She shoots it quickly, smoothly and with range from all-over.

Hermesch was a pleasant find in the sub-state semi-final at Halstead. She showed that she was the Thunder's best pure scorer. And she did so with athleticism and quickness. Hermesch used her length well to pick up shot blocks, rebound and to be disruptive on the defensive end.
