This week, I changed up the way I covered the State Tournament.

Prep Network Scouts are limited on the number of reports we can post daily. So, instead of powering through four games a day and traveling four straight days, I am mixing things up.

I scouted two of the four Class 5A first-round games. On Wednesday, two reports on eight prospects for Spring Hill and St. Thomas Aquinas were featured as those teams advanced in the tournament and will face each other today in Emporia.

In this report, six prospects are featured from Hays and Maize South, whose terrific seasons came to an abrupt end. The Indians finished with a 22-1 record after falling to St. Thomas Aquinas. Maize South made a dramatic come-from-behind attempt but fell late to Spring Hill.

Here is a report on six prospects from those two clubs who saw their winning seasons finish with a loss.

[player_tooltip player_id='350246' first='Molly' last='Martin'], 5'7”, PG, Hays, ‘25 (Pictured Above)

Martin is a pure shooter who can make it rain from deep. She is committed to Ottawa University. She moves well without the ball and knows where she likes to shoot from. She was a rock for the Indians and hit two key first-half 3-pointers to change the momentum of the game. Martin led the Indians on the scoresheet, finishing with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. She is currently ranked No. 19 overall in the Kansas Class of 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='817014' first='Jenna' last='Schmeidler'], 5'7”, CG, Hays, ‘28

Schmeidler's game is advanced beyond her age. She can run the point or play the off guard. She has a nice jump shot and makes crisp and accurate passes. She does a nice job drawing contact and then making the opposition pay at the charity stripe. She was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. The freshman played with ice in her veins in the second half, hitting a key 3-pointer late in the third quarter. Schmeidler finished the game with 18 points and shot 2-of-8 from 3-point range.

[player_tooltip player_id='606255' first='Zoe' last='Winter'], 5'11”, PF, Hays, ‘26

Winter is an aggressive rebounder. She fights for solid position. Winter has a nice jump shot and hit a big one in the first quarter to prevent St. Thomas from running away with the game early. Winter finished the contest with six rebounds and three points.

[player_tooltip player_id='544016' first='Charley' last='Hill'], 5'8”, SG/SF, Maize South, ‘27

Hill kept the Mavericks in the game, and this was her best game that I have personally watched. She is a gritty wing who can shoot from deep, but who will also lower her shoulder and drive to the hoop. She led Maize South's second-half comeback with her jump-shooting. She finished the game with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. Something tells me this won't be her only trip to the state tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id='719105' first='Jaela' last='Thompson'], 5'10”, CG, Maize South, ‘27

Thompson was quick out of the gates to open the tournament and made a great pass in transition for an easy assist. She is ranked No. 27 overall by Prep Girls Hoops Kansas. She was aggressive early in the game and was looking to score. Although her early shot attempts did not find net, she finished strong and helped guide the Mavericks to a second-half comeback. She finished as the team's leading scorer with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='779212' first='Addison' last='Davee'], 6'3”, C, Maize South, ‘27

Davee could be one of the best post players in the state come her senior season. Her size is intimidating, and she affects shot attempts simply by being on the court. Right now, she is raw and plays a secondary role for the Mavericks. The key to her development will center around gaining confidence on the offensive end of the court and playing more physical as a defender. In my book, she is a solid Division I or Division II prospect. She finished with four rebounds, including a key one late in the game. She chipped in six points in the loss.
