This time of the year feels like the calm before the storm.

The school year is winding down, and I don't have to pay any attention to high school spring sports. April was a month in which I updated the PGH rankings, and now I will prepare to release updated Prep Dig rankings in May.

Until then, it's all about enjoying the NHL playoffs and the spring MLB season, before everything ramps up in June and July with club basketball and summer football, volleyball, and basketball camps.

It is an opportune time to feature an update on recruiting in Kansas. This week, two athletes announced their commitments to play college basketball, and two more shared recent offers.

Please consider tagging me and PGH Kansas when you make announcements on X about your recruitment.

[player_tooltip player_id='398382' first='Heaven' last='Gilbert'], 5'10”, PF, Wichita Heights, ‘25

Gilbert announced this week that she has committed to Friends University. She finished ranked No. 56 overall in the Prep Girls Hoops rankings for the Class of 2025. Gilbert is a tough paint defender with quick hands and the ability to impact shot selection. She is a physical athlete willing to crash the boards and block out.

Mahogany Butler, 5'7”, PG, Wichita South, ‘25

Butler took to social media this past week to announce her commitment to Coffeyville Community College. She finished ranked No. 85 overall in the Class of 2025. Butler understands how to run an offense and is a threat as a passer and scorer. I like what she can do in transition, and she is always a threat to score off the drive.

[player_tooltip player_id='544010' first='Deena' last='Holmes'], 6'2”, PF, Life Prep Academy, ‘26

Holmes is ranked No. 19 overall by Prep Girls Hoops. The junior forward announced today she has received an offer from Southeastern Louisiana. Southeastern is a Division I school located in Hammond, LA. Holmes is quick for her size and runs the floor well. She is a threat to record a double-double just by showing up in the gym.

[player_tooltip player_id='544016' first='Charley' last='Hill'], 5'9”, SF, Maize South, ‘26

Hill is ranked No. 39 overall in the Prep Girls Hoops Kansas Class of 2026 rankings. She received an offer from Southwestern College this week. Hill loves to shoot the “corner three,” and she flat-out drains from there. She is a gritty defender and can score off the ball. She would be a solid addition to the Moundbuilder roster, but I have a sneaky feeling she is not done receiving college offers.
