The 2025 Cagers Invitational was a great experience again this year. 26 different travel clubs attended with college coaches from D2, NAIA, D3, and JUCO programs recruiting both days. There was comprehensive live media coverage both days by LBI and PGH at the tournament, with 20 hours of in-court coverage by PGH this weekend! The attending teams truly received the best possible tournament coverage at the event–every 2029-2026 team was evaluated and watched this weekend. Nearly 60 prospects will be included in my post-tournament write-ups this week, with nearly half being written about for the very first time. That's what Prep Girls Hoops Michigan is all about–discovering new prospects from every club in the state who have the potential to play college basketball at any level. The Cagers Invitational is the perfect exposure tournament for most teams in the state. The organization, staff, format, and competition are terrific. I will continue to support it annually, and I hope to see independent travel clubs take advantage of this great event in 2026! Coming to this tournament gives your players a great chance to put their best abilities on display in front of college scouts, coaches, and trusted media sources. Why Should My Club Attend?

Here are several guards from the 2027 and 2028 classes who grabbed my attention with their scrappy defense, shifty handles, and sleight of hand at the Cagers Invitational.

At the Cagers Invitational, Naimah had the speed, handles, and instincts you look for in a lead guard. She swiped the ball away with her quick hands on defense and raced down the floor to score a full-speed layup. One of Naimah's strengths is her ability to create separation to shimmy past defenders using a variety of crossover dribbles and attack gaps. She shifted into top gear and scored acrobatic finishes with great touch using either hand. Naimah made strong kick-out passes to perimeter shooters when help defenders committed to her dribble--her competitive fire, toughness, and sleight of hand with the ball have been exciting to watch during high school and now travel with [program_tooltip program_id='712670' first='Michigan' last='Storm Elite GUAA'] 2027.

Mackenzie was a category five hurricane for [program_tooltip program_id='712670' first='Michigan' last='Storm Elite GUAA'] 2028 at the Cagers Invitational. Her defensive pressure disrupted ball handlers and resulted in several steals. She secured defensive rebounds with authority, using strong rips to keep defenders from tying up the ball. Mackenzie was dialed in from beyond the arc, draining many triples, including a smooth corner three after drifting off a screen. She dished strong kick-out passes when her drive wasn't there and was one of the most impactful two-way players on the court.

Janielle put her best basketball on full display for [program_tooltip program_id='712670' first='Michigan' last='Storm Elite GUAA'] 2028 at the Cagers Invitational. She buried a wing three and swiped two steals to score two left-handed layups off two feet in a short span. Janielle put immense pressure on the opposing team's ball-handlers with her relentless pressure and added another left-handed layup off two feet. She made strong passes to teammates and stood out as one of the most active contributors on both ends.

Katelyn had a fantastic tournament for the [program_tooltip program_id='1243619' first='Clarkston' last='Warriors'] and was one of their top prospects at the Cagers Invitational. Katelyn created separation from defenders with her crossover dribbles and penetrated gaps with a quick burst to score many layups with touch at the rim. Her pesky pressure and quick hands resulted in steals on the defensive end. Katelyn is a threat from beyond the arc, and she swished a confident straightaway triple.

Ava's defensive effort and spark on offense at the Cagers Invitational jumped out for [program_tooltip program_id='714556' first='TC' last='Elite'] 2027 Wallace. She swished a wing three off the hop with textbook mechanics and dropped in a floater off the dribble with a soft touch. Ava embraced the challenge of defending the opposing team's best player and continued defending with all-out effort the entire game. She deflected passes, snagged steals, blocked a shot, and handled the ball confidently under pressure.

Alayna is a point guard with promise for [program_tooltip program_id='1244063' first='Great' last='Lakes Grind'] 2027. She scans the court with her eyes up to find open teammates in transition and keeps her hands active to cause steals on the defensive end. Alayna stole the ball and pulled up to bury a confident straightaway triple off the bounce in transition. She sensed where the defense was going to shift and used that awareness to make smart passes. Alayna has sound footwork/pivots and is a shifty facilitator with the ball on a string.

Liv energized Macon 6 Basketball Academy 2028 National with her explosive downhill bursts at the Cagers Invitational. Liv used hesitation dribbles and quick crossovers to split defenders. She drove fearlessly into contact to cause fouls and knocked down her free throws. Liv pressured opposing guards with a relentless effort that resulted in deflections and steals. She drained a wing three after a quick crossover dribble and dished out assists to teammates.
