Coaches oftentimes have specific size requirements that they will look for at each position for their teams. This can change based off of what level the coach coaches at. For example, a post at the D1 level will likely have to be 6'2 or above. Whereas a post at the D3 level could get by at 6'. Players like [player_tooltip player_id='641200' first='Megan' last='Dietz'] (athletic 6'2), [player_tooltip player_id='892385' first='Marlee' last='Falcon'] (athletic 6'3), and [player_tooltip player_id='1004419' first='Siera' last='Nipstad'] (5'10 guard), are all examples of how size and frame can play a factor in recruiting.

Coaches want athletes. They will look at speed, quickness, jumping ability, and anticipation in their recruits. [player_tooltip player_id='461314' first='Fallon' last='Passanante'] is a sought after D2 prospect due to her great jumping ability. [player_tooltip player_id='641196' first='Mataya' last='Messer'] got a ton of attention at the D2 level from this past weekend due to her incredible timing with her defense and her ability to block and alter shots. [player_tooltip player_id='641207' first='Abby' last='Fosland'] received a scholarship offer from University of Mary partly because of how athletic she is. [player_tooltip player_id='889645' first='Karleigh' last='Kadoun'] is someone I think colleges should look at because she is a strong athlete who can really elevate.

Shooting is the most important skill in basketball. If you can shoot it, you can almost always find time on the floor. A good post player will shoot in the high 50's and low 60's for their field goal percentage. Good guards can shoot in the low 50's for their field goal percentage and in the high 30's and 40's from behind the arc. Good high school free-throw shooters are shooting at least in the high 70's. Want to know why [player_tooltip player_id='555488' first='Lakyn' last='Donnelly'] is such a high recruit? She shot 46% from the field, 44% from three, and 94% from the free throw line (only missing 4 free throws all year!). [player_tooltip player_id='629942' first='Quinn' last='Skari'] is another great example: 45% from the field, 38% from three, and 79% from the free throw line.

Typically the recruiting for most athletes will fire up after they complete their sophomore season as some divisions aren't allowed to contact athletes until that time. If you are a younger star, bigger divisions might take a peek at you to add you to their list. If you are a younger athlete with a big frame, they also might add you to their list. [player_tooltip player_id='1172427' first='Kesia' last='Boeshans'] is a 6'2 2028 who will get looks due to her height and athletic ability. [player_tooltip player_id='1004420' first='Rylee' last='Seavert'] has received multiple D1 offers due to being a 6'1 2028. [player_tooltip player_id='1126138' first='Jaya' last='Taylor'] averaged double figures this season as a talented 2030.

Everyone wants players who work hard, who listen, who are good teammates, and who are coachable. If you aren't these things, you will never make it as a college player. I look at athletes like [player_tooltip player_id='658263' first='Zoe' last='Keene'], [player_tooltip player_id='1048389' first='Addyson' last='Gust'], and [player_tooltip player_id='593657' first='Rylee' last='Routledge'] are all great examples.

One thing to keep in mind: everyone runs their own race. Control what you can control. You are a STUD if you play at any level in college.
