This morning Iowa City West hosted a handful of teams from across the state to compete in a mini high high school shootout on their campus. The day brought together 6 programs that all have some respectable players, coaching, and overall skillsets as a group. In this piece we speak about some of the players that we saw this morning to kick off the day.

[player_tooltip player_id='342205' first='Jayla' last='Williams'] is going to do all that she can to help her Ankeny team to a State appearance before she graduates but if that is truly going to happen, she is going to need some help. Someone who should be her #2, who demonstrated some skill on both sides of the floor today was [player_tooltip player_id='782498' first='Ainsley' last='Kiene']. Kiene was assisting others in transition, scoring herself down the floor at a steady pace, and making some smart plays when the opportunities presented themselves. She demonstrated a coordinated game style, that was better than most out on the floor around her. All in all, good showing from Ankeny today in Iowa City.

When [player_tooltip player_id='1267302' first='Adelyn' last='Stien'] is used in the proper ways, she is very productive. CPU has to play with a purpose and to understand what their objectives really are as a group. There were countless times that Stien would work off the ball and post on her defender because of the advantage she had with her athletic ability. With that being said, I did not see the ball go to the post with her on the block once. Stien also handled the rock running her teams offense and even played the SG spot at times while helping her team break the press. CPU is going to be solid moving forward if they lock in. Summer ball is MUCH different than the regular season so I expect to see them during Christmas time running at full speed into the new year.

With [player_tooltip player_id='342205' first='Jayla' last='Williams'] commitment to Creighton this past month, it takes a lot of pressure off of her game. Her future is locked in and now she can work to put together the best Winter season possible. Today Williams was standing on business, killing her opponents defensively. Anyone coming down the floor would run into Williams and she would simply steal the ball going the other way for a simple finish in transition. This, along with her rebounding and passing, stood out as the best in the gym throughout the day. Ankeny is going to be tough this Winter. They are a group that has a good chance to make the State Tournament if they play their cards right. That shouldn't be the only thing on their minds but it definitely should be a team goal as we move closer to the season.

The natural size and movement that [player_tooltip player_id='981151' first='Abby' last='Neumiller'] presents on the hardwood is noteworthy. She has better than average height at 6'0, she can play inside-to-out, and she seems like a good teammate to those around her. She isn't going to be the team's main producer or focus this season but she will be in the conversation. With her touch, as long as she can be put in her favorable position near the bucket, she should put up some really nice stat lines. She displayed a little bit of everything today in this event. She moved off the ball well, made simple and smart plays, kept it moving physicality at all times, and she was really in shape compared to others around her. Three things that evaluators and college coaches love to see.
