The beauty of our game is that if you work hard in it, you will reap the benefits of your hard work. You just can't roll the ball out there and be good. Don't get me wrong, some people are naturally gifted; however, you must work consistently on your craft to reach the highest peaks. I get asked questions all the time: What does it take to reach the next level? For one, you have to dream and believe. Two, you must create a baseline (be where your feet are) and grind. Lastly, you have to be ready because you never know when or where your breakthrough will happen. Surround yourself with good people, good coaches, and trainers, and go out and have fun while you enjoy the process. You never know who is watching.

For example, I have been able to see a lot of ball over the past year. Yeah, you can kind of say it's my job, but I am always looking and assessing. From practices, camps, exposure opportunities, local tournaments, etc., I am always thinking about how one would do or fit either in a system or at the next level. I have had the ability to see some outstanding hoopers out there. I can't tell you where they will end up, just know they have talent. Game recognizes game, but I will say there are some ballplayers out there that not only make a difference for their schools, but will be competing at the next level.

Here are some girls who I expect to have a breakthrough year this go around.

This young lady is nice with the ball in her hands. She has a quick first step, can shoot it from the arc, or attack downhill. She competes on both ends of the floor, using her length to get steals and deflections. She is someone who can help provide a solid 1-2 punch with someone. She can play off the ball or be the primary. I love her court vision and her ability to just get after it. Look for her to be someone special who is going to help the Lady Eagles program.

A sharpshooter who can really fill it up. Give her any kind of space, and you made the wrong move. She is deadly from 3, but at the same time won't hesitate to go get a bucket and finish at the rim. I am looking forward to seeing where she picks up from. Last year, she was solid as a freshman, uplifting her team in multiple ways. This year, I expect her to come out of the gates strong, showcasing that same scoring acumen she had last season. Look for her to not only be an All-District player, but someone who is going to spark a run for this Watertown program.

I am not going to call her one of the best kept secrets in the state, but she is a big who can really impose her will down in the paint. Let's state the obvious: she has great size, but she can also do a multitude of things with the ball in her hands. She can score consistently over either shoulder playing with her back to the basket, and can be used in the screen game, where she rolls or pops to knock down the mid-range. She dominates the boards, gets blocks, and makes the team's game plan on ways to score away from the basket. This will be a big year for her and one that has the Lady Mustangs thinking state contention.

Shifty guard who can score it from multiple levels. The recent MTSU commit has had a great summer season. Not only did she commit to the Blue Raiders, but she will be bringing an incredible work ethic to the table. She can score spotting up or take it to the hoop off the dribble. I love how she stays balanced and can deliver a bump on her way to the rim. She is not only a good offensive player, but solid on the defensive end as well. This kid is going to be a nice addition to the Lady Raider program. Until then, look for her to help T-town reach new heights this upcoming season.

A kid who can change speeds like no other. Shifty ball handling who can create off the dribble, stop and pop in transition, knock down the 3 ball consistently, and will compete her tail off no matter who she is facing. She is the underdog, and she embraces that role. A fighter who is going to give it her all every time she steps onto the floor. She's a gym rat who is going to help propel her ball club. She brings the energy and effort, and her teammates feed off that. Look for her to have an incredible senior season and grab the attention of collegiate coaches along the way.
