At the PGH Sophomore ID Camp, we had over 70 players who all came ready to compete. Many stopped me to say they were determined to earn their rankings and consistently asked for tips on how to improve their game. The gym was packed with talent, and the environment was electric. Players battled in 3v3 and then 5v5, and the atmosphere felt like a championship game as everyone left it all on the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='248374' first='Catalina' last='LaFreniere'] is one of the most crafty and skilled PGs I have seen in a while. Her ability to control the game with her pace is next level. She changes speeds and levels with her dribble while scanning the floor—something even many college players are still learning. Her vision allows her to see the entire court and deliver some of the nicest passes I've seen, while still being able to create and get her own shot whenever she wants. Off the ball, she can shoot the lights out off the catch. LaFreniere wasn't just one of the top PGs in the building—she was one of the most skilled players overall. She's a name that will be known across the state soon.

[player_tooltip player_id='1122373' first='Ashlynn' last='Day'] was a problem for every opponent slashing to the rim. There were very few times she wasn't able to get there with her quick first step and ability to find the angle and finish through contact using the backboard. Ashlynn consistently put up points, and toward the later stages of games, when teams tried to pack the paint or go under screens to slow her down, she showcased her ability to knock down the three. Either way, she was scoring three points—whether the old-school way with an and-one or from long range. Day's awareness of when to use high or low pickups on the drive was impressive, and her deep bag of finishes around the rim makes her tough to stop.

[player_tooltip player_id='514918' first='Adelynn' last='Curry'] impressed me quickly in 3v3 with her IQ. Twice she faked a dribble handoff and attacked downhill to the rim for an easy layup, showcasing her understanding of help defense and reads. Then, Curry began shooting the ball without hesitation, knocking it down with nothing but net in 5v5, showing confidence in her shot and not worrying about closeouts. Another standout play was her grabbing a defensive rebound, dribbling past two defenders, pushing the ball up the middle of the floor, and finishing at the rim through contact. Curry showcased how she can impact a game both on-ball and off-ball, making her one of my stock risers of the day.

[player_tooltip player_id='1306514' first='Catherine' last='Luster'] plays with grit and aggression, which showed especially on the defensive end where she was active off the ball. When a player tried to face cut in front of her, she immediately stopped them, redirected them, and then switched on the wing to force a turnover. Luster was active all over the defensive end, diving for loose balls and making hustle plays. Offensively, she was always moving, never standing still, and spaced the floor like a high-IQ player. Catherine doesn't mind doing the gritty parts of the game—at one point she set a hard screen, absorbing the hit from a defender going full speed, which freed her teammate for an easy bucket, showing how selfless she is. Luster also displayed great shot selection off the catch; even the ones she didn't make were good looks that barely rolled out. Every team needs a player like Catherine—someone who gives her all on both ends of the floor and makes a major impact on the game

[player_tooltip player_id='1293113' first='Ellie' last='Mittias'] used her length and size to play strong on-ball defense against her matchups. Her ability to stay low with a solid base and active hands kept opponents in front of her and denied them easy drives, often leading to turnovers. Offensively, Ellie knew how to set effective screens and understood when to roll or pop, spacing the floor properly and putting herself in scoring position. She was fearless crashing the boards after every shot, consistently putting herself in position to cut down extra possessions for the opposing offense. Ellie is a player who will make a defensive impact while always positioning herself to score when needed.

[player_tooltip player_id='1124488' first='Riley' last='Turknett'] impacted the game heavily on the defensive end from the wing. She showcased the importance of active hands and quick feet, making ball handlers uncomfortable and forcing turnovers—and at times, her presence alone led to unforced mistakes. Offensively, she was always moving and spacing the floor correctly, getting open in transition, and filling the lanes. Riley also protected the ball well, even against tight on-ball pressure, showing her poise and ability to keep the offense flowing. As she continues to grow more confident in her game, Riley will be a high-impact player on any team she joins.

[player_tooltip player_id='1273397' first='Joba' last='Oyedeji'] was a dominant force. On one play, she hit a hesitation crossover from the wing, drove baseline, and finished with a strong jump stop into a post player—knocking them out of position without charging and converting the layup, showing there are levels to her game. Joba demonstrated she can play on the wing with her ball-handling and shooting, and when needed, she could also draw contact and finish the old-school three-point play. From the high post to the low post, she dominated with quick decision-making and elite footwork. Joba showcased herself as one of the top players in her class.

[player_tooltip player_id='1234885' first='Paulina' last='Moret'] has the size, strength, and athletic ability to be a force as an off-ball guard. She impacted the game on all three levels—from the high post, at the rim, and behind the arc. Paulina used her strength to power past smaller defenders, her athleticism to battle with bigger defenders, and her speed to blow by slower ones. She also didn't hesitate to crash the boards, creating extra possessions on offense and cutting down opportunities for opponents. With so many tools already in her game, as she develops a go-to move, her versatility will make her a serious problem for any defense.

[player_tooltip player_id='912251' first='Ella' last='Crowe'] impressed me with her strength and explosive first step, allowing her to get to the rim with ease. She was also effective out of the high post against smaller guards, using her footwork to create quality shots. Defensively, she understands the importance of playing on-ball with her hands active, forcing several turnovers. Ella also showed she can knock it down from deep. Crowe is definitely a player to watch closely this year, as she looks to be a stock riser this season.
