Sophomore ID Camp: Team 5 Evaluation

On Saturday, players from around the state of Florida as well as other states descended upon Seminole Sports Academy for 4 hours to showcase their talent against their peers in their class. It's an exciting event to see the class of 2028 compete against their own to see where they truly stand at the state level. Here are evaluations on one of the teams I scouted:    Madison continues to impress each time I see her in person. She was lighting it up from all three levels -- the three ball, baseline jumpers, and runners in the paint. Her quickness and handles allow her to blow by her defender and force the defense to help on her. After she collapsed the defense, she made some terrific finds and feeds with the dump down passes to her teammates for easy buckets. Madi plays with a great motor and plays the game the right way.     Jada is incredibly hard to keep in front of you as a defender. She uses the jab fake and her eyes to look off defenders and then uses her body control so well towards the rim. Defensively, she was providing pressure and picking pockets for big turnovers for her squad. I was really impressed with her vertical on Saturday that allowed her to block shots and get up for boards.     Cali is a top post player in this class that really put that on display this weekend against some of the best in her class. I've seen her stretch the defense and play on the arc, so it was good to see she's continued to work on her footwork in the paint. She showed a really good touch at the basket and finished strong over and through defenders. Her hands were also impressive as she made some tough catches which is a huge positive for a player with her height/length.     Jocelyn was a smooth operator during 3x3 and saw the floor and her teammates so well. The part of her game I appreciated the most was her shot selection which is vital for a point guards success. She knew when to take and knock down the open 3, but would look to make the extra pass for an easier shot for her teammate. Her pace and vision were impressive in transition, and she communicated so well on both ends of the floor.     Anaiyaa showed the ability to shoot the 3 ball at a high clip. She also could get around her defender and dropped a nasty lefty runner in traffic during 5x5. Defensively, she did a great job of helping off when her teammate was beat by stopping the ball or hedging off of her player on screens. Her confidence in picking up one of the top PG's in this class full-court and making her zig and zag up the court showed a lot of maturity as well.     Janiya has nice length for her frame which caught my attention off the bat. That helped her on the defensive end as she provided pressure to the ball handler and got her hands in the passing lanes to make it difficult for her opponent. She was constantly in motion on offense and spaced the floor well enough for her team to have success in the half court.     Christiana has a quick spin move in her bag that was hard to contain. She also hit a really nice floater over the top of a post player like a tear drop. Her speed and handles allowed her to get to the middle of the floor to open up the offense in the half court.     Genesis hit a really tough fadeaway from 10 feet out which really caught my attention. Her aggressiveness in the passing lanes led to some big deflections on the defensive side of the ball. She was very unselfish in her play and had some beautiful assists to her teammates.
