Freshman Showcase (WI): Wings Standouts

Another Freshman Showcase is in the books, and this one did not disappoint. A packed gym saw young prospects battling to boost their stock and make a name for themselves. Here are some names to know who left their mark!    Representing Grafton High School, Tagliapietra was one of the most dynamic wings at the showcase. A true playmaker, she doubled as a rim protector and transition threat, often grabbing boards and pushing coast to coast. Her quickness from end to end made her tough to contain, and she consistently attacked the basket with assertiveness. What stood out most was her ability to finish through contact with either hand, showing poise and toughness in the paint.     Hailing from West De Pere High School, Hannula's length and versatility shined for Team 10. Defensively, she excelled in pressure situations, whether jumping traps or anchoring the paint with her mobility and awareness. On offense, she was multifaceted in the pick-and-roll, finishing inside and stretching the floor by popping into space. Her two-way impact made her one of the more complete forwards at camp.     Playing for Regis High School, Borcherding dominated the interior for Team 4 all camp long. Her size, wingspan, and lateral movement made her a defensive anchor, while her strong hands on post entry passes allowed her to control the block. Offensively, she displayed advanced footwork and polished finishing around the rim, establishing herself as a reliable interior presence.     Out of Eau Claire Memorial High School, McCarthy proved to be a do-it-all force for Team 5. Her athletic prowess stood out when crashing the glass, leading fast breaks, and defending across multiple positions. She switched seamlessly from guarding smaller guards to battling bigs in the paint. In transition, McCarthy elevated the tempo and brought constant energy, making her one of the most impactful players on the floor.     From Dominican High School, Woods controlled the paint for Team 8 with strength and communication. She demanded defensive attention on every catch, freeing up teammates to attack off the dribble. Defensively, she anchored the interior with vocal leadership and physicality, helping her team stay organized in coverage. Woods' competitive edge and paint dominance made her a cornerstone of her squad.     Representing Seymour High School, Rudnik provided steady, high-IQ play for Team 2 from the forward spot. She operated confidently in the mid-post, using patience and timing to make the right reads. In transition, her body control and composure under pressure allowed her to finish or create clean looks for others. Rudnik's consistent decision-making set the tone for her team throughout camp.     Suiting up for Indian Trails High School, Gutierrez brought toughness and relentless energy every time she stepped on the floor. She was a rebounding machine, crashing the glass on both ends with great timing. Offensively, she used her strength to play through contact and pushed the tempo herself without waiting for an outlet. Her hustle and two-way motor made her an invaluable piece for Team 12.
