I took a breather after the Freshman Showcase a few weeks ago. We had ten straight days of content from that event, highlighting every player who was signed up before the event. We also have another sizeable event coming up this weekend, being The Expo. Today, I'd like to get back on the saddle and highlight a few players I'd like to spotlight before the event while I'm traveling for a few open gyms around the state this week.

I will watch Hudson's open gym tomorrow, and Whitten is a player I'm eager to see there during the high school season. When the Raiders were healthy, Whitten was a part of the rotation that I believe was solid enough to make a run to the state tournament. She provides a solid inside-out threat that can play multiple roles depending on the role that she needs to play on any possession. If that group stays healthy, Whitten will be crucial for them.

[player_tooltip player_id='883074' first='Liliana' last='Verplancke']

The Grafton forward is a player who will provide some size for a Grafton team that will give up size against most teams they'll line up against this season. Verplancke has experience in the North Shore and should have more confidence heading into her junior season as a Black Hawk. Playing with the guards that Grafton has could lead to her being a consistent double-double threat in the North Shore.

[player_tooltip player_id='888382' first='Eva' last='Denzien']

The Pewaukee native is a player who will be a part of the new iteration of the Pirates program. Denzien played crucial minutes against talented programs, and she played well in games against Kimberly and Pius, among others. She also has not been afraid to take high-pressure shots in those games, which makes me believe she could be an impactful player in what will likely be her first full season in the Pirates' rotation. She could be a player who surprises people and helps her team win some games this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1275672' first='Avari' last='Steiner']

There are few players whom I enjoy watching than Steiner. There aren't many players who play with as much emotion and passion as she does, and she will never shy away from high-pressure moments and will take those shots if they fall to her. She may play at a small school, but she may be a kid who could help out a school in the region at the next level.
