Choctaw Seniors Stings

One Choctaw senior who stings was covered already in the starting 5. But Duval isn't the only Yellowjacket bringing it on the defensive end. [player_tooltip player_id='578024' first='Essence' last='Curry'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1161843' first='Anniyah' last='Navarro'] became popular recruits over the spring and summer. They both earned offers from regional small school programs. Their disruptive play and athleticism makes it easy to see why college coaches are interested.

Curry, is the more refined of the pair. With smooth handles and even hitting from three during the contest watched. Has recovered quite well from a major injury and is quick on both ends of the floor. This week she added to her offer list. With an offer from Oklahoma JuCo, Eastern.

Navarro is a long armed guard, who has similar quickness. But might be more impressive with long speed when pushing it following rebounds and turnovers. Attacks gaps in the half court. Plays fast but has improved her control. Including a nice stop and reverse pivot into a mid-range shot.

BA's new Impact Juniors

New contributors is the theme for the Tigers. In this case, it was two newcomers to the school that caught the eye on Saturday. They're both juniors making the jump to Class 6A. [player_tooltip player_id='751293' first='Lia' last='Peters'] is an athletic wing, who looked the part with her contributions. [player_tooltip player_id='1252185' first='Gracie' last='Sanders'] made some plays like a wing, including hitting a three and getting out to deny passes on the perimeter. But she has the size and athleticism to mix it up inside. Keep an eye on this duo to add an athletic dimension to the Tigers, especially as the team gels.

Bulldog mindset from Seniors

Last year Lincoln Christian finally climbed the mountain in Class 4A, winning a dramatic game to close out the fabled Big House. Since then, seniors [player_tooltip player_id='572964' first='Alexis' last='Leyva'] and [player_tooltip player_id='413627' first='Kayli' last='Atkinson'] have found their collegiate homes. Committing to Wichita State and Missouri Southern State, respectively. So it would be understandable if they had a case of senioritist. But it was the complete opposite on Saturday.

Atkinson was her usual self. Dialed in from distance, then often picking up and harassing on the ball. Leyva was a vocal floor general, who got wherever she wanted on the court. She often seemed focus on setting up her talented teammates. The goal seems clear for the defending champs. To repeat.

Final Scouts

A few more evaluations on prospects who impressed.

During Locust Grove's first two scrimmages, my primary focus was on the game on the court next to LG. But every time I glanced over at the Pirates, it seemed to be Stokes making plays on both ends. Blocking and rebounding well. Has continued to improve her ball handling and shooting abilities. Playing more and more like a big guard.

Her final scrimmage was a bit more up and down, as she faced a big test vs LCS. There were some moments where smaller guards really got under her and gave her troubles. But she kept battling and ended up being productive in that match up too.

With the way Jackson was hustling and diving for loose balls, it was possible to be mistaken that it was March and not October. The energy and hustle was exceptional, even for a member of a Lady Husky program that prides itself on toughness. Jackson is one of the toughest players in Oklahoma. Hardnosed scoring guard, who often leaves it all on the floor.

It was a bright start for McCoy's school ball season. She was reading passing lanes like a DB, and feasting in transition. Which included improved touch as a finisher, even finishing through fouls. It was a good sign of her development over the last six months, as she was hitting shots she would've previously missed. Seems to be taking on the creating responsibilities, with some good drives and dishes to the Timberwolves' frontcourt.

As the day went along, she had some issues with turnovers on offense. And had some moments on defensive of unsuccessfully gambling while on the ball. Finding the right balance between havoc causing and being disciplined by playing defense with her feet will help her lead a rebuilding Norman North team.
