Prep Girls Hoops Kentucky has rolled out a new "Team Rankings" feature on the homepage. These rankings are generated by a formula that factors in win percentage, point differential, strength of schedule, and the strength of each team's classification.

It's still very early in the season, so the Power Scores are likely to favor teams that are undefeated or have faced tougher schedules, and there may be some early surprises. As the season progresses and true contenders begin to separate themselves from the pack, we're excited for the Power Scores to continue to evolve and emerge as an authoritative tool for evaluating and ranking teams across the state.

Here we will take a look at the early season top 5 teams in Kentucky.

The Lady Lakers currently sit atop the rankings and are off to a terrific 6–0 start to the season, with four of those wins coming by margins of 30 points or more. Their success has been fueled by strong contributions from senior standouts Sayler Lower and [player_tooltip player_id='761880' first='Jaidan' last='Koch'], along with impressive production from eighth-grader [player_tooltip player_id='1242646' first='Josie' last='Haynes'], who continues to make an immediate impact. With momentum on their side, the Lady Lakers have a strong chance to push to 11–0 as they enter a five-game homestand.

The state runners-up are off to a 3–0 start, opening the season with blowout wins over Scott, West Jessamine, and Franklin County. [player_tooltip player_id='739686' first='Kennedy' last='Stamper'], [player_tooltip player_id='963013' first='Kyleigh' last='Chestnut'], [player_tooltip player_id='376806' first='Teigh' last='Yeast'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1276182' first='E'liyah' last='Strode'] have provided the bulk of the production early on, setting the tone on both ends of the floor. With that core leading the way, the Lady Cardinals look poised to remain a top team in the rankings at least through December, before their schedule begins to stiffen and present tougher tests.

Johnson Central currently sits at No. 3 in the rankings and is off to a 3–0 start to the season. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='934138' first='Karlea' last='Stanley'] has led the way, pouring in 17 points in their recent win over Shelby Valley, with additional contributions from freshmen [player_tooltip player_id='1293275' first='Emma' last='McKenzie'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1302830' first='Allie' last='Slone']. With the way the schedule aligns, the Lady Eagles have a legitimate chance to go undefeated over their next nine games, positioning themselves for a strong run as the season progresses.

However, after suffering a 58–35 loss to Paintsville today, the Lady Red Devils will likely see a significant drop in the next rankings update.

On paper, North Hardin looked like a team capable of making serious noise this season, and they've backed that up with a red-hot 5–0 start. The Lady Trojans have been led by [player_tooltip player_id='879343' first='Alanah' last='Dubose'], [player_tooltip player_id='913415' first='Asia' last='Charles'], [player_tooltip player_id='418066' first='Destiny' last='Scott'], and [player_tooltip player_id='903388' first='Lillian' last='White'], with all five wins coming on their home floor, including a statement victory over rival John Hardin yesterday. Now comes the next test. North Hardin enters a nine-game road stretch, and it will be telling to see how they respond without the advantage of home court.
