Many new faces stepped up as we got the 2025/26 girls basketball season started. As we gear up for the second half of the high school season I wanted to take a moment to highlight players who broke out and started making a name for themselves. Here are some girls who are making noise in Southern Arizona.

Gamillo has been one of the most explosive players to watch so far this season. She plays with a high motor and has shown every ability to have success at the next level. Shes averaging 23.8 points per game with a season high of 35 points in a game. Shes shooting 43 percent from the field, 36 percent from three and adding 3.3 assists per game on the offensive end. Shes surpassed 25+ points six times this season. Gamillo plays just as effectively on the defensive end. Her height, wingspan and awareness allows her to impact the game at a high level. She's adding 9.8 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.1 blocks per game. A highly under recruited prospect.

Biancuzzo is one of the top paint performers not only in Southern Arizona but in the state. She is very disruptive to her opponents plays and passes. She is currently averaging 10.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. She has a season high of 21 rebounds in a single game so far this season. Very strong in the post and moves really well with her feet to get to the basket. Strong screen setter and moves great in the pick and roll. A hidden gem coaches need to take a look at. Impacts the game at a high level.

In just halfway through her sophomore season Hampton is already gaining the attention of college coaches. Most recently getting an offer from local Pima College. Hampton is having a tremendous season. She is averaging 17.5 points, 1.1 assist, 8.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. She had her best game of the season against ALA Gilbert North where she torched the Eagles for 31 points and 15 rebounds. Hampton will be a highly recruited player by the time her senior season comes around. Her skill and overall game will only get better.

Safo is an extremely skilled player who can effectively play 1-4. She can blow by her initial defender and then euro step around the secondary defender scoring the basket rather easily. Shes racking in 17.6 points, 3.1 assists, 10.2 rebounds and 4.6 steals per game. Her stats show in black and white how good of an overall player she is but watching her live you can truly see how impactful of a player she is. She moves with purpose and sees the court at a high level.

I've said it before and I'll continue to say it, Espinosa is one of my favorite players to watch play the game. She gives 100 percent of what she has every possession and is a huge reason why the Warriors are having the success they are. Her 15.5 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field and 2.2 assists on the offensive side definitely helps but her ability to rebound the ball and dominate the paint separates her from any player. She averages 13.3 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. As this article gets posted she will have accounted for over 800 rebounds just halfway through her junior season. Espinosa is currently 326 rebounds from breaking into the top 20 in the AIA record books and could possibly be in the top 10 when her high school career is over.

Barajas continues to show shes one of the top two way guards in Southern AZ regardless of class. With her high energy she is absolutely relentless on the defensive end of the ball forcing turnovers and averaging 5.2 steals per game. Very vocal on both sides. Her offensive game has improved and shes now scoring 12.7 points and adding 2.8 assists per game. She dribbles with purpose and does a great job of making the right play. Barajas is a dynamic playmaker on both sides of the ball. A player who is highly under recruited.

Kollasch has taken her opportunity as a full time starter for the Lancers and is running with it. To truly see what she brings to the table you have to see it live. Her leadership, motor and body language are infectious to her teammates. She plays with passion and is a highly impactful player. Her season averages midway through the season are 11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists 1.5 steals and 1 block per game. Kollasch is a key reason the Lancer are currently undefeated at 8-0 on the season. She currently holds an offer from Pima College. The first of what I expect to be many in the near future.
