South Carolina's high school girls basketball schedule has had to navigate around its recent weather difficulties. One game that went off without a hitch took place on Friday between two of the top teams in the 2A ranks.

Those two teams were Hampton County and Lake Marion. The Hurricanes and Gators were likely to be at the top of the region standings by this point in the season, but both teams have also had to deal with an improved Whale Branch team as well.

We at Prep Girls Hoops made the drive eastbound on Interstate 26 to the Gators' swamp for Friday evening's region get-together. Here are a few names that made their presences felt that evening.

The final score of Friday evening's contest proved to be 57-47 in favor of the Gators. Instrumental in Lake Marion's victory was the performance of Moorer who came through for her team to the tune of 20 points. Out of the 20 she did score, 12 occurred in the second half. Moorer may have had more if it were not for having to sit much of the second quarter as she encountered foul trouble. She is a versatile three-level scorer that can also haul in a good number of rebounds and collect a high number of steals. Given how effective she is playing either the two or the three, Moorer will find plenty of time at the wing.

When things appeared bleak for the Gators at the half, coach Tequilla Allen needed her team to step it up. McCaskill answered to conclude her evening with 12 points to help Lake Marion to the victory over Hampton County. McCaskill had to key the team's offensive efforts in the second quarter as the Gators faced adversity in the form of foul trouble. She understands how to organize an offense in a half court set. As a two, she is effective at draining 3-pointers. The Gators connected on four 3-pointers for Friday night's matchup. Two of those tries from deep departed from McCaskill's hands.

Davis also stepped up to ensure Lake Marion would be in the win column against its region adversaries from Hampton County. She concluded her evening with an 11-point effort. The Hurricanes had problems advancing the ball for a good portion of the second half because of the defensive effort provided by Davis. She made Hampton County ball-carriers turnover-prone and it gave addition opportunities for the Gators to make things happen on the offensive end of the floor. Attacking the basket is another strong point to Davis' game. Davis is one of five juniors on this season's Lake Marion team.

Another important part of the Gators' victory was the production Lake Marion got off of its bench. Wallace proved to give the Gators that as she added seven points to the Lake Marion cause. She is listed as a guard on Lake Marion's roster but managed to make a number of clutch plays in close proximity to the basket. Wallace also understands the art of drawing contact to give her team opportunities at the free throw line. She is one of three on the Gators' roster that is part of Lake Marion's class of 2026 and is listed at 5-foot-8.

Even through Hampton County may have been on the losing end of Friday evening's 57-47 decision to homestanding Lake Marion, Jones' 25 points kept the Hurricanes in a winning spot from start to finish. Out of the 25 that Jones scored, 15 occurred in the first half when the matchup was more to Hampton County's liking. Attacking the rim and finishing strong is one of the many strong points to Jones' game. She attracts plenty of attention from defenses and takes advantage of that to make the right passes to put her teammates in the right positions to make plays. Jones also does not shy away from contact that can place her at the free throw line.
