It is always exciting around this time of the year to look ahead. It is equally important to look back on the season it was that led us to this point.

As is the case every season, there are plenty of standout freshmen that established themselves as names to watch in upcoming years. This past season was no different.

Freshmen throughout the state made their presences felt as is the case every season, but we narrowed this list down to 10 who particularly had an impact in 2025-26.

Not only has Evans taken the next step, her team has as well. Her 5A Division 1 Byrnes assembling is putting the finishing touches on a 2025-26 season that saw the Rebels compile 20 wins for the first time since 2019-20. A two-sport athlete who also competes in soccer, Evans has played in all 25 games for the Rebels as of this writing. She has averaged 14.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per matchup. Following this year's tournament, Evans will bring her talents to the Nike EYBL circuit which is where her travel team – AEBL Girlz – will play on this spring and summer. Byrnes last won state in 1965 and Evans has the Rebels in position to be the final 5A Division 1 team standing this season.

The Gators of 5A Division 2 Goose Creek also have the distinction of its most recent 20-win campaign being in 2019-20 – when they won its most recent state championship (and third in four years at the time). That was before this season. Not only has Dates powered Goose Creek to second ranking in the most recent 5A Division 2 coaches' poll, but she led her team to a region championship after running the table against its region foes. Dates played in all 25 games this season for the Gators and averaged 20.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest.

Coach Aaron Lucas is finishing up his first season at the helm of 5A Division 1 Ridge View and the Blazers have put together another stellar season in large part thanks to two star freshmen. One of those is Ferguson who plays like the [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] product she is. Ferguson first played at the varsity level as a seventh grader and is more than poised to spearhead the Blazers' backcourt efforts for the next three seasons. In the 21 contests where she has sported Ridge View's signature purple hue, she has averaged 10.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals per season.

Ridge View's frontcourt efforts have been paced by Carr all throughout 2025-26. Carr's first season was last year as an eighth grader, and she has taken a noteworthy leap as the featured big for the Blazers this season. Another of the [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] program, Carr has averaged 11 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per contest throughout the season. Her presence in the interior was a key factor to the Blazers finishing second in its region only behind defending 5A Division 1 champion Blythewood. The nucleus of Ridge View appears to be set for the next three seasons and it will be a difficult one for opponents to contend with.

McEntire followed up what was a solid eighth grade season with SCISA 4A Ben Lippen with even more stellar play for the Falcons this season. Fewer teams exemplify the moniker “team of the future” more than Ben Lippen and McEntire has been vital to her team's success. Ben Lippen has compiled 20 wins this season and McEntire has averaged 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.5 steals in the 27 games she has played. The Falcons are currently in the throes of a six-game winning streak. Ben Lippen advanced to the quarterfinals of last season's SCISA 4A tournament and the superb play of McEntire is merely one reason why the Falcons can make an even deeper run in this year's playoffs.
