We are dangerously close to putting the 2025-26 regular season in the books and shifting our focus entirely towards state tournaments.

It is always exciting around this time of the year to look ahead. It is equally important to look back on the season it was that led us to this point.

As is the case every season, there are plenty of standout freshmen that established themselves as names to watch in upcoming years. This past season was no different.

Freshmen throughout the state made their presences felt as is the case every season, but we narrowed this list down to 10 who particularly had an impact in 2025-26.

Not only has Evans taken the next step, her team has as well. Her 5A Division 1 Byrnes assembling is putting the finishing touches on a 2025-26 season that saw the Rebels compile 20 wins for the first time since 2019-20. A two-sport athlete who also competes in soccer, Evans has played in all 25 games for the Rebels as of this writing. She has averaged 14.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per matchup. Following this year's tournament, Evans will bring her talents to the Nike EYBL circuit which is where her travel team – AEBL Girlz – will play on this spring and summer. Byrnes last won state in 1965 and Evans has the Rebels in position to be the final 5A Division 1 team standing this season.

The Gators of 5A Division 2 Goose Creek also have the distinction of its most recent 20-win campaign being in 2019-20 – when they won its most recent state championship (and third in four years at the time). That was before this season. Not only has Dates powered Goose Creek to second ranking in the most recent 5A Division 2 coaches' poll, but she led her team to a region championship after running the table against its region foes. Dates played in all 25 games this season for the Gators and averaged 20.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest.

Coach Aaron Lucas is finishing up his first season at the helm of 5A Division 1 Ridge View and the Blazers have put together another stellar season in large part thanks to two star freshmen. One of those is Ferguson who plays like the [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] product she is. Ferguson first played at the varsity level as a seventh grader and is more than poised to spearhead the Blazers' backcourt efforts for the next three seasons. In the 21 contests where she has sported Ridge View's signature purple hue, she has averaged 10.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.2 steals per season.

Ridge View's frontcourt efforts have been paced by Carr all throughout 2025-26. Carr's first season was last year as an eighth grader, and she has taken a noteworthy leap as the featured big for the Blazers this season. Another of the [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] program, Carr has averaged 11 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals per contest throughout the season. Her presence in the interior was a key factor to the Blazers finishing second in its region only behind defending 5A Division 1 champion Blythewood. The nucleus of Ridge View appears to be set for the next three seasons and it will be a difficult one for opponents to contend with.

In the 2A ranks, the Red Devils of Clinton could be the team to beat. Since being on the wrong end of a 58-37 decision in late December to 5A Division 1 West Ashley, Clinton is heading into tournament play in the throes of a 13-game winning streak plus a region championship. Patterson has established herself as one of the premier sharpshooters in the Palmetto State. She is a two-sport athlete who also thrives as a softball standout in addition to what she gets accomplished on the basketball court. Patterson has worn the Team Curry uniform during the spring and summer months of AAU. She has averaged 6.4 points per game in the 25 games she has played.

A year after Greenville advanced to the 5A Division 2 Upper State championship, the Red Raiders are in prime position to make an even deeper tournament run over the next few weeks. Jaminet is a key element to the Red Raiders' winning formula. She has played in 24 games this season for Greenville and has averaged 9.9 points, three rebounds and 1.3 steals per contest. Jaminet wears the Her Elite uniform during the spring and summer months of AAU play. She looks to part of the Red Raiders' nucleus the next three seasons as Greenville will move back down to the 4A ranks following this season. The Red Raiders are currently ranked third in the most recent 5A Division 2 coaches' poll.

The Gators of 5A Division 1 River Bluff entered the 2025-26 season with high expectations. Childers has played like it as she was one of the noteworthy transfers to River Bluff prior to the start of the season. She has averaged 7.4 points and 2.2 steals this season and her play has contributed to the Gators' improved overall record – as well as better fortunes against region opponents. Childers has played in 22 games this season for River Bluff. She is a multi-sport athlete who has also excelled as a cross country runner alongside her basketball achievements. Childers is another from the [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] program.

For the third time in the last five seasons, the Bruins of 4A South Florence have put together a season with 20 wins and a region championship. When a team has one of the premier young bigs in the state in Bostick, said team will be in the win column more often than not. Bostick has played in all 24 games this season and has nearly a double-double with 22.4 points and 9.6 rebounds in 2025-26. Bostick is also averaging three steals per contest. She has worn the Carolina Hawks uniform during AAU play and also previously ran with [program_tooltip program_id='713005' first='Upward' last='Stars'] where she played up in class on its 16U team. South Florence last appeared in the state championship game in 1995. The most 4A coaches' poll has the Bruins ranked sixth.

The task that awaits Wando over the next several weeks is to claim its first state championship since the 1979-80 season. McKevitt's play can get the Warriors to that point. She is one of only two 2029s on this season's Wando roster. McKevitt has played in all 23 games this season for the Warriors and leads the team in scoring averaging 13.7 points per game. The [program_tooltip program_id='783909' first='Palmetto' last='76ers/A'ja Wilson Elite'] standout is also averaging 4.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.1 steals per contest. McKevitt's play has contributed to Wando earning a ranking of fifth in the most recent 5A Division 1 coaches' poll.

McEntire followed up what was a solid eighth grade season with SCISA 4A Ben Lippen with even more stellar play for the Falcons this season. Fewer teams exemplify the moniker “team of the future” more than Ben Lippen and McEntire has been vital to her team's success. Ben Lippen has compiled 20 wins this season and McEntire has averaged 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.5 steals in the 27 games she has played. The Falcons are currently in the throes of a six-game winning streak. Ben Lippen advanced to the quarterfinals of last season's SCISA 4A tournament and the superb play of McEntire is merely one reason why the Falcons can make an even deeper run in this year's playoffs.

We are dangerously close to putting the 2025-26 regular season in the books and shifting our focus entirely towards state tournaments.
