We've reached the final stage of the season, and in Class 2A the spotlight once again shines on a dynasty. Miami Country Day School has won three straight state titles and remains one of the most decorated programs in FHSAA history. Since 2014, no program has captured more championships, and this year's group may be one of its best. Nationally ranked during the final stretch of the season, Miami Country Day has been the deepest and most talented team in the bracket, with no postseason opponent finishing within 40 points. Still, you have to play the games. Here are a couple of their players to watch at UNF:

Jalynn is a rare talent at the 2A level with her strength, skill, and playmaking ability. Her game is versatile and unselfish, allowing her to impact the game in many ways. She creates matchup problems and can guard multiple positions while also taking advantage of mismatches on offense. Her leadership will be a major factor as MCDS pushes for another state title.

Defense is always critical in the state finals, and Kori brings it every game. Her ability to pressure the ball, speed teams up, and create turnovers can change the pace quickly. If she uses her speed and instincts consistently, opponents could be in for a long weekend in Jacksonville. Expect her to generate points off turnovers and bring constant energy for Miami Country Day.

Standing across from them in the semifinal is San Jose Prep, a team that has been battle tested on its road to Jacksonville. Under new leadership and with a revamped roster, they've put together an impressive season and have not shied away from competition. Playing in their own backyard adds another layer of confidence, and hunger will not be an issue. They'll be led by this hooper:

Lena brings a strong combination of speed, ball handling, and basketball IQ. Her court vision and ability to anticipate the game are fun to watch. She excels in transition, but also in the half court where she can get to the rim with a variety of moves while also finding teammates for easy looks. As a true two way guard, her scoring, playmaking, and defensive effort make her one of the most impactful players on the floor in Class 2A.

On the other side sits Evangelical Christian School, which fell to Miami Country Day by just two points in last year's state semifinal. That near miss has likely fueled them all season. They bring young talent, size, and steady guard play, but first must get through Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. Holy Trinity features talented guards and has navigated a strong schedule to earn its spot, making that semifinal anything but predictable. Here are some players I expect to make a difference in this 2-seed versus 3-seed matchup:

Nalah will have a clear height and length advantage against Holy Trinity in the state semifinal. Her ability to control the paint with rebounds and shot blocking could make a huge difference. If she uses her athleticism to finish around the rim and run the floor, Evangelical Christian will have a strong chance to earn that rematch with Miami Country Day.

Leila has a chance to be one of the best players to come out of her area and the state. This weekend gives her a big stage to prove it against strong competition. If she plays with physicality and stays assertive, she can give Holy Trinity a real chance to advance. Limiting turnovers and second chance opportunities will be key if she is going to lead this talented backcourt toward a state title opportunity.

Miami Country Day is the favorite. The résumé, the depth, the dominance all point in one direction. But March is about moments, adjustments, and belief. The dynasty rolls into Jacksonville with history on its side. The rest of the field arrives with something to prove.
