Top 25 Camp Notes: Part Four

Over the past two years, Nate Wickstrom and JD Andersen have put together a camp of 25 talented players, run them through skills workouts, and put them in a competitive environment. I've enjoyed attending the first two events they have put together, and I'm excited to see how they grow the event in the years to come. Over the next few days, I'll talk about some things I noticed from the players in attendance, what they showed through drills, some of the competitive drills, and short 5v5 games they played over the four hours in Mequon.    The Brookfield native is a player who has always excelled on the offensive end of the floor and, in turn, looked solid in the skills work. For a kid of her length, handling the ball and moving as fluidly as she can in half-court settings allows her to get downhill and use her shooting to open the floor up for herself. Piurkowski also showed her ability to score in the 1v1 work they did due to her length and ability to protect the ball.     Elliott is a player who wears numerous hats for her Blue Bombers team, and it's probably helped her develop in all aspects. She has a solid handle for her size, is comfortable during the skills work, and moves well. She was another kid who played through mistakes and didn't stop when she took a wrong step or bobbled the ball. I thought she showed that she was a quick learner.     The reigning D5 State Champion came from the smallest school at the event and didn't look out of place in the slightest. She was one of the kids who seemed comfortable among people she probably had never met before, and you could tell her group of kids enjoyed being around her. She was solid in the 5v5 portion, and shot the ball better than I remember her ever shooting. She's a kid who will do well anywhere she goes.     The Milwaukee native is a talented kid who was comfortable asking questions about how coaches wanted things done and listened well. I thought she learned quickly and adapted well to her surroundings. I thought she balanced her game well in the 5v5 portion and showed her passing, which I feel may be slightly underrated. Overall, I thought she was one of the kids who looked most comfortable creating for others in the 5v5 work.
