The 5A Sonoran Region features some of the top prospects in Southern Arizona. When it comes time to discuss the year end POY and first/second teams I personally wont envy the coaches deciding that. Below are some of my "players to watch" this season. This is the second part in this series due to the amount of talent in this region.

Meyer is a sharpshooter from beyond the arc and has shown the ability to completely take over a game. She displayed this by dropping 30 points on 10-17 shooting from beyond the arc against Pueblo last season. One of the quickest, smoothest releases in the state. A tough defender who can pick up the length of the court. Meyer is quickly elevating as one of the top shooting guards in the state.

Safo earned defensive player of the year honors last season in the 6A South. Rincon is in a completely new region and conference but don't expect anything to change for Safo. With 14 double doubles last season and averaging 16.6 points and 9.9 rebounds a game you can expect similar if not better numbers in Safos upcoming senior season. Safo has a very skilled handle along with great footwork and can score at a high level. Strong motor and impacts the game in every aspect.

Del Rio is finding herself with a bigger part of the rotation on a very talented Lancers roster. She had a very interesting Section 7 that saw her number get called for some clutch time plays which she delivered on. One of the strongest motors in Southern AZ. Although only entering her sophomore season Del Rio plays very composed and doesn't give into pressure. This could wind up being a big breakout season for Del Rio. Definitely a player to keep an eye on this season.

Lual has become one of the hottest prospects in the 2028 class picking up a ton of interest and a division 1 offer from Wichita State this summer. Her sophomore season saw her average 8 points per game and 10.1 rebounds along with 2.7 blocks. There was a crowd of Division 1 coaches watching her at Section 7 in June. 6'5 and a lengthy wingspan will do that. Now you add her skilled footwork and tremendous shot blocking ability and she is impossible to ignore. A big season coming up for Lual and the Lancers with nothing less than a state championship as the goal.

Tiznado is a player you simply have to watch play to truly appreciate how she truly impacts the game. A relentless on ball defender who will force an offense to play opposite of where she is on the court. Fills in the gaps and is quick in help. Very quick and plays with good physicality. Tiznado picked up her first offer from Ottawa University in what I expect to be many more to come. She will be a vital piece for the Falcons in what is expected to be a deep playoff run.

Haygood was a first team all region selection last season for the Cougars. She averaged 7.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Haygood was a physical force in the paint where she was very effective. She has a strong solid frame and can bully opponents. Showed the ability to knockdown the three ball. Can drive the lane, get fancy with some footwork and finish well through contact. She'll be a force again in her upcoming senior season.

The first team all-region selection for the Spartans finished her sophomore season averaging 11.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game. Sepulveda has a solid handle on the ball and is skilled with her feet. Will drive the lane and has a nice floater to score the ball. Shoots the three off the pass very well and has a very consistent midrange. Great vision and make good passes through traffic. Sepulveda will look to have a breakout season as she continues to develop with the Spartans.
